Baden are now out vassals

Is anyone else slightly annoyed with this? This happens with every country. They are only one country but they have it plural. At least it isn't as bad as All Your Base.

It's an old badly translated French game that has the words "all your base are belong to us" as well as "someone setup us the bomb". There is a song and a music video because of it. Try www.newgrounds.com.

I don't think the above is bad English. It implies that the people of Baden are now your vassals, perhaps... I don't know, I don't carry out many conversations about who my vassals are in my real life (if one could call it that ). Though: you could say, "The prince of Baden is my vassal," but I don't think "Baden(as in the province itselfe) is our vassal," is correct English.

Yea, I think the English is fine, it's probably referring to the people of Baden as a collective whole.

It's just one of those strange quirks between American English and English English: the Brits will refer to a collective object (like a corporation, team, or nation) as a plural, while Americans will refer to it as a singular object.

It's a British vs. Americam English thing involving collective nouns. A Brit would say "the team ARE playing," we would say "the team IS playing".
