  • Should I buy EU?

Should I purchase Europa Universalis? I mean to you guys is it worth the almost $40 the computer store wants for it? I have experience playing SMAC and SMAC-X. I also like action type games like Rainbow Six. So would you reccomned I buy it?

Depends, you like history? You like European history? You like realistic games? Then you should get it!

But, one question to ask is do you have enough money for EU AND Black and White coming at the end of the month .

I'm very much enjoying it after buying it on Monday (slow at work right now, so I've been playing it 9-5 , and thinking about it in the evenings). It's more a simulation than a war game, but that's just fine with me.

My son is nuts about Rainbow Six and he really likes Europa Universalis. Guess he's well-grounded

I can not wait to test out the pets in Black and White, man I've heard the Pet learning AI is incredible!

BTW, this isn't a normal strategy game. It doesn't look favorably on warmongering (unless you are a wuss that plays on low difficulty levels ). The key is diplomacy...

Warmongering is a hell of a lot more fun though

Actually I still suck pretty bad but I'm getting better at that whole diplomacy thing as England and Portugual on norm diff

Note to self, don't piss off france or spain

Well, yes of course I like European history. That's why I'm interested in the game. How are the graphics compared to say SMAC?

A lot better IMHO, it's much easier to look at

On each of the 4 maps, all is very decernable, well the main map gets cluttered but it's not as bad as SMAC clutter.

The main map is where the action is, you can see the terrain of the provinces change from snowy to desert etc. Units(ships and armies) are semi large and easy to see, also all countries have different colored units, France is blue, England is red, Spain is yellow, etc so you can see that a lot better than SMAC.

Political map is straight forward. The colors are vivid, and when I say vivid, even in the center of europe wheres theres about 20 different countries you can get to each easily. Also each capital has it's little shield thing on the political map to get to the diplomacy screen with that country.

Economic map, Well it's easy to see what each province has, Fish are clear, Grain is clear, etc. Um I don't really have the economics game down tight yet so I'm not too sure on any usefulness of this map I hardly ever use it. I just put auto merchants on.

Religious map, ok but the reformed and counter reforms and all those other micro religions are hard to tell which is which. It's good to tell if you are gonna switch and have rebels or whatever.

But all in all the graphics are pretty good, they are clear, crisp, nothing fancy and a little bit cartoonish. Which is just fine.

If civ3s graphics are this good I'll be set.

Though I think if I do buy it, I'll wait until the 1.08 version comes out, so hopefully some of the bugs will be fixed.
