  • Victoria seems really kewl

So I've reached agreement with POTM, the new laptop is going to be mainly hers, and shes been using it pretty intensely for schoolwork, but she agreed I could load Victoria on it, and play it (and also show her some history from it). I'll continue doing other gaming on the dino.

The game is really something. It runs quite smoothly on the laptop, at least so far - much better than EU2 did on the dino. Ive started as Belgium and still find it overwhelming. There are a LOT of commodities to manage, like the Imperialism games gone wild. Then there are the pops. While there is huge potential micromanagement involved, they relate so well (at least at first glance) to the time period, and the historic themes, they seem to me one of the best things about the game.

I presume the game is keeping track of which pops votes, and their ideological inclinations. Playing around on the politics screen i found myself to have a conserv govt, and wealth based voting. the govt was about to lose badly to the liberals. When i tried Universal suffrage, the Consies won (which actually makes sense for many countries in this period, esp when religion was still a dominant issue) Thats the kind of detail i love in a historical game.

    So far so good.

i suspect I will need a glance at the FAQS on the Paradox site to get a better sense of how to keep this game manageable.

Victoria is a really fun and interesting game. Have you tried the VIP mod yet? Probably not since you're just firing it up. Give it a go after a few stock games.

I got it in the paradox strategy 6 pack.

EU2 + Vickie + HOI (the original) + Two Thrones + Crown of the North + EU2/Asia Chapters, for $20 US. And that was over a year ago.

at the local EB. It was fairly widespread about a year ago, when it came out. I presume its bargain bin by now, but I dont know. You could try the usual online game stores, ebay etc. I think Paradox was selling it direct as well, and probably still are, but id bet the other sources would be cheaper.

You can get it from Paradox's own net shop too. Mostly cheaper than in the shop, and Paradox earns more money which they can use to develop even better games.

Haven't tried them myself, but what I've heard is that they are far worse than the other Paradox games. CotN is basically an English version of a Swedish game Paradox made before EU1 and TT it's expansion, so it's not that weird. It's a CK very light.

Could you look after your sig, please?

An early version of CK? That one might actually run on BeBro's machine
