I am slightly less optimistic on the playability of HoI2 out of package, but the, quite devoted, Fans will pull out another CORE soon enough I assume.

The First Version is never perfekt, so much things get changed in the First patches that by 1.05 its almost

So lets wait for Hoi2 1.03 instead, the stable HOI ;=)

I have to admite that I bought EU2 and HOI right after they were released and I was disappointed by how rushed, buggy, and unstable they were. Paradox kept supporting their products but it took a year or two before things were really fixed. In my mind a year or two of part time patching would equal 3-5 months of full time pre-release bug sorting. They need to start spending the extra time to sort the games out properly during beta.

Which is what they have done with HoI2 if I have understood their info, release date(early January vs old pre-Christmas) and the previews I've seen so far.

          can't wait.

          er

will wait probably until summer, one or two patches in.

Or will the manual features actually match the game features this time from the get-go?

I think one preview mentioned that the manual seems to be way better this time... Not sure which one said so though. Also the previews seem to agree that HoI2 is more finished on a beta stage than earlier Paradox games.

I really did like the original HoI and a massive WW2 strategy game is exactly what I'm looking for. After reading the reviews it sounds like Paradox kept the good parts of the game (depth, complexity, grand strategic planning) and fixed some of the big problems (an interface which often made it labor intensive for players to do what they wanted). I know I will buy this game because I know Paradox will stand behind their product but I do hope this game is better sorted "out of the box" then previous Paradox releases.

                From Bombtown's review:

The beta was stable (until you start a war, then it gets buggy and crashes a lot) and just needs quite a bit of gameplay balancing and the adding of more details, like more generals.

The beta every single preview has used, is the September beta btw. Johan said so today/yesterday. As the game went gold a few days ago, I am confident the game will be better than we are used to, although I don't think it will be flawless.

I will buy the new game as soon as physics permits.

Sigh. I carry the heavy burden of desire upon the gravel path of time. Roll on February 18.
