John-SJ, I saw your reply right after mine at the EU forum. I'm glad you finally got it. Mine would've been shipped out on Thursday, but it didn't enter the queue until after they shut down due to the blizzard. That's why I don't pay for overnight delivery since it seems that more times than not, it gets out on Fridays and since I have everything delivered to my office, I can't get anything until Mondays anyways.

Alas! We've nothing but Babbage's and Best Buy in my hometown. Babbage's won't get EU until Feb, 28, but there is no word when it will make it to local retailers.

I have had this game for quite awhile now, and I can tell for a fact that it doesn´t suck. Trust me on this one...

This game definitely does not suck! It is hard to get a handle on initially because the manual and tutorial are not perfect, but persevere. Play a fantasia game or Russian Grand Campaign to learn the ropes. Don't try England in the GC until you know what you are doing (my mistake)!!
To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.

Game definitely does not suck. It's rivaling Civ2 for enjoyment and addictivness.

Hmmmm. I wonder if it would be possible for someone to develop an expanded version of the game into a "Civilization Universalis"?

I got my hopes up and I am not disappointed. What it takes to like the game:

                        - an interest in strategy games
                        - a curiousity about history
                        - finding greater pleasure in strategy than tactics
                        - high historical fidelity but history that can be changed, sometimes dramatically
                        - enjoying subtleties like religious, geographic, economic, technology, weather, season, and a multitude of other factors that vary across some 70+ potential opponents
                        - finding that all this is still manageable with a few hours of game play under your belt
                        - customizability by editing some text files - you can play virtually any of the 70+ nations
                        - 128 mb of RAM for the later years when the game may slow if you are just meeting minimum specs

I have been a devoted civ-type game player for a decade and this game is simply the best game I have ever played, including Civ1, 2, and all the variants. It is not a game for you if you don't like to think and you are just looking for targets to shoot at.

BTW, I am an alum of Va Tech (UT PROSIM). Since when did people on campus start speaking so slovenly? Do me and other Tech alums a favor and change your "location" to U Miami or some such place OK?

I just bought the game yesterday. I rarely pay full price for a game - but I did for this one - and it's worth every penny. It is a beautiful game. Full of depth and strategy.

Run - do not walk to your game store to buy this game. All CivII, CTPII, and strategy gamers are going to love this game. It spans the whole freakin world! It has everything! Diplomacy, production, economics, military, etc. How did Paradox ever create such a game?

The manual (127 pages) is beautiful. It doesn't have an index, but someone created one, and it can be downloaded from the forum on Paradox's site. The pages in the manual are glossy pages; rivalling that of an expensive book.

This is a polished game that seethes with history and gameplay. I am going to be playing this for a long time.

More scenarios are being created for it all the time, and can be found at the following site:

                            http://www.europa-universalis.com/

Here is a game worthy of your attention until CivIII comes along. Even then, you are going to still be playing it.

Hm, curious. PC Gamer gave it 54%, and they're never wrong... No, wait, there was that time they gave CtP 96%.

Still I think I'll trust they're 94% on Black and White.
