  • New Paradox project is Hearts of Iron 2:Doomsday

    Yep.
New add-on to HOI2 build around the hypothetical conflict of Glorious USSR vs. Evil Allies somewhere between 1945-1953.
Fredrik Lindgren CEO of Paradox Entertainment stated that at 10.29.05 in Moscow.
    New features:
    - new units including advanced nuclear weapons and helicopters.
    - advanced spyonage and sabotage (25 types of covert missions)
    - arms dealings
    - improved diplomacy
    - advanced AI (yeah, right )
    - new scenarious including Korean war and Arab-Israel war.
According to Mr. Lindgren the add-on will be finished at March 2006.

interesting - so instead of the specially designed Cold War game many have been asking for, theyre doing a HOI2 x-pack instead - I can certainly see how it makes good capitalist sense

My suspicion is that this means the next full fledged new game WONT be a cold war game - both cause theyre not going to do the same subject matter as this xpack, and cause the fact that theyre doing an xpack (for the first time, AFAIK) tells me they need the money. Next full fledged game is probably EU3.

Paradox doing a XP? I'd never thought I'd see that... What surprises me most is that this means they won't use the new engine for their next game. I hope they do a EU3 next, but then they better use a new engine. Now, I never came much into HoI1/2, but own them both, but being the Paradox-fan I am, and having enjoyed HoI2 for a short time at least, I guess I'll have this game on my wish list. My birthday in April could be a good time to get this game.

I posted this over at Paradox, and Johan(the lead programmer), called it "obviously off-topic!". He didn't say anything specific, but it sounded like a denial to me...

I hope they make a new patch for Victoria first. It's kind of overdue.

Just read it. It did sound like a denial but the 'shushing' between the Mods that occurred later in the thread implied that there may've been more going on than met the eye.

Methinks the God of Thunder and whatnot is being cagey ...

They also stated that all new features will be available for vanilla HOI2 as well. As for me, they actually make a super-patch for HOI2 based upon fan's feedback (arms dealings and normal mechanism for covert operations were 2 things fans all around the world were asking for). As I understand they couldn't introduce those features via simple patch, probably 'cause it needs a slight engine modification.
Anyway a mod about Cold War is better than nothing. Perhaps thanks to this mod they'll get some experience needed for a fully Cold War oriented game.

A denial of what? That they doing an expansion pack?
From what I heard they gonna officially anounce this at the middle of the November.

Well, he didn't really confirm anything, he just moved the whole thread to the OT with that remark as the only message.

BTW, the "shushing" you're talking of ravagon, was as I understand it made by one thing: One of the mods early in the thread came with some harsh remarks of Snowball(and rightly so IMHO, they did after all do Paradox some real harm) and suggested they should be sued by Paradox. Now, all problems in the past aside, Snowball still is Paradox's publisher in Russia, so those remarks were not particulary well liked, and he had to delete them.

not just an x pack - it will be "free standing" - IE it will ship with the original game, with the latest patch. All for $20 (US).

It seems like Paradox doesnt want me to ever pay full price for a game

Note, they also seem to be planning on the iminent releases of patches to EU2, CK, and yes, Victoria.

Is this a great company or what?

                            Absolutely.

But where do you get the patch info from? I must have missed that...

go to Paradox forums and look at the calendar - there are target release dates for all the patches (no promises, but obviously theyre pretty far along, as all the dates are in the next 2 months or so)

Theres also a thread in the EU2 forum called "1.9 patch"
