I hope Victoria is, but Virtual Programming seem to have messed up with my order.
I'm sure they'll sort it out soon.
ok maybe someone could help then..I have d/l the demo for Axis & Allies and its a fairly decent game thus far, I understand its a demo and will try to play more....
Is EU (or EU2) similiar?
I am asking because I enjoy varying sorts of games PBEM and sometimes MP for CTP/CIVIII Conquests but I enjoy also games like RON and AOEII:Conquerors as well as C & C Generals Zero Hour and also Empiresawn of the Modern World ..
I read and heard about EU2 just trying to get more feedback is all
There's no demo of any Paradox game, since it's too easy to make a demo into a full game.
Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139.14a
Also active on WePlayCiv.
The best way of describing EUII is that it is a real time version of old classic strategy boardgames (like the Axis and Allies boardgame from the mid eighties).
It runs from 1419-1820 and there are various starting points along that way allowed (for example the Napoleonic Wars has its own campaign). I, like many people, prefer to play the grand campaign (the whole thing).
You play a country and are responsible for everything. You can play any country you like, although the European countries are most fun. The combat, exploration, economic and especially the diplomatic models are much more developed than those in the Civ series.
You will find yourself constrained by exactly the same sort of problems as faced real rulers. For example, the alliance system is very realistic and you really need to think carefully about who you ally yourself with. For most countries alliances are necessary, otherwise you will find yourself being ganged up on.
Conquering other countries by military force is possible, although very difficult, since the rest of the world quickly paints you as a warmonger and will set out to cut you down to size. It is often more effective to annex countries by diplomatic means (gifts, royal marriages, vassalization).
Exploration is a lot of fun. Once you receive Explorers/Conquistadors, the rest of the world is open for colonization and exploitation. Wars between rival colonial powers can be very rewarding from a gameplay point of view.
It is certainly worth your money and it is probably best to start with EUII before playing Victoria or Hearts of Iron, which are much more complicated games.
Not a single Paradox game ever made it to be a topseller
Order it online. Every marketplace has it. I started with EU1 in 1998, when I found it in a wharehouse by chance... Fell in love with Paradox at that time... I bought every single game they made, and until now EU2 is my favourite (followed by HoI, then CK).
What I´m trying to say is: You should REALLY get that game! It´s by far my most-played game ever.

Yeah, you have armies and navies which are made up of a mix of infantry, cavalry, artillery, warships, transports and galleys.
Each has a leader, who may or may not be a special historical leader (like Nelson).
You also send out colonists to colonize new territories and to establish trading posts, merchants to trade, diplomats to conduct diplomacy and missionaries to convert the heathen.
Depending on which map mode you have, you will not see the units.
Buy the game. You can probably find it quite cheap these days, and it is better than Civ. Once you get bored of thrashing the computer, you can play over the net with other Apolytoners or whoever.
Once you get bored, buy Victoria. Once you get bored of that it will be about 2012 by which time virtual sex will have become indistinguishable from the real thing and computer games will die off (spotty teen boys will have better things to do).
And when you´ve bought it, don´t forget to patch it up and then - highly recommended - install AGCEEP. This is a mod that makes the game (especially the 100-years-war between England and France) much more realistic. It also doubles the amount of events...
Maybe you already know that each Paradox game (except for CK, which just is too new) has a number of mods which make it better in every way. Playing "plain" EU2 is fun, but once you´ve witnessed the superior plot of AGCEEP you don´t ever want to return...
(Now if only it was stable...)
