In my current HoI Core game, I as the germans routed the frenchies in sept 1939 and had captured the brit isles by early 1940. France was vichy'd. mid 1940 I was moving south with 2 panzer armies on transports to whittle the brits down to puppet them. France rebelled and I captured and puppeted them, so there is both a france and vichy france in the game, weird. I moved a bit more and took the remnants of belgium (which france annexed ) I controlled or allied with all of europe except scandanavia and denmark and Romania. Had Iraq, Turkey, Persia, and Tibet in the alliance to chip away at the other brit provinces. Had my first dozen or so advanced tac bombers come online by Nov 1941, preparting to invade Russia about April, 1942. Then. Then. Then.

    The US declared war.

So close to it. Apparently an event was triggeredy by my capturing of the British Isles some two years previous.

I haven't put the game aside, but it might get ugly, especially since my axis buddies can't defend at all. I guess if I can bitter peace russia within a year or so, I can figure something out...

I've seen a few comments in the Paradox forum indicating rather severe AI problems when one is playing as a non-axis country under 1.06?
I find this rather odd as it seems to me that the Axis is doing rather well - Germany seems to have a bit of trouble at the start but then gets a breakthrough or two and overruns France in short order.

Ditto for the USSR, albeit with a slightly longer time frame, but they just don't seem to want to finish the job - I've seen the Sov's pushed back to the Urals and then both they and the Nazi's, still with over 200 divisions on each side, just seem to move units around for the next year or two - all engagements seem to be Axis Air power versus Soviet Ground forces ...
The Japanese campaign in China follows along the same lines - after a blitzkrieg attack taking half of China the IJA just seemed to stop in it's tracks and then follow the same pattern of redeploying forces back and forth continuously.
I've tried reloading too but this seems to be more than just the AI falling asleep?

yeah, the japanese is more noticible. they take half of china then...stop. but they're not at war with anyone else, what are they doing? surely a hundred militia can't stop much?

Isn't alot of inland china really low infrastructure? That might be the reason why. Regardless, i think that is historicaly realistic behaviour, if I understand correctly the Japanese really only conquered coastal china because the rural areas had such poor infrastrure and where so spread out.

Yeah, historically that's true, IIRC we were landing bombers in chinese territory late in the war.

Still, I wish it could be a bit more ahistorical and let Japan go for the kill. Though if they did, it would screw up their govt, as they would need more luxury goods.

Well d'oh! Of cource I've tried that. It's just that I can't keep my desire to play if I have to reinstall the game every other time or so. I've experienced the problem both on my own and my gf's computer. Paradox entertainment isn't good at making stable games. No company seems to be good at that anymore (if they ever where).
