You did release them as a vassal while playing the game, yes? You have to do that before saving.

I think I've had similar problems before... it's strange but it's true... just reload and try again...

Which patch are you using? Many parts of the game change depending upon which patch you use.

Ok, just to be sure I'm going to walk you through it step by step.

            1) first highlight the country which you were playing when the game was saved. The country must be high lighted or it will not work.

            2) Right click on the highlighted shield and a drop down menu will appear. Depending upon the speed of your computer and the amount of available memory this might take a few seconds.

            3) From the drop down menu you will see a list of all available nations. Since you saved the game after KoJ was released as a vassal then you should see "Kingdom of Jerusalam" as an option (It's shield is a black cross on a grey background).

            4) Left click on the KoJ and the drop down menu will disappear leaving you with the KoJ as you new highlighted shield.

            5) load game as normal.

He's having trouble so I thought I'd break it down for him. One of my friends works at a call in tech support line and he told me people often miss things which people who use the program often take for granted. Thus spelling things out step by step sometimes helps to solve the problem.
