General Chaos, now theres a pretty good memory for me.

    Very fun and funny. Nice.

Oh, and I didn't mean to say that SMB was the king of mindless fun, just the flagship example I think.

I meant that playing a simple scrolling action type game of any sort is very nice these days.

I enjoyed Sonic. I only played the first sonic for the genesis, but the sheer speed of the game at most points was fun.

Now that I think about it, maybe "mindless" isn't the proper way to describe it.

I mean, those old games took all kinds of coordination, and that isn't "mindless" per se.

I mean, how many times can you remember playing a certain level over and over and over again until you were able to get the hang of timing a particular jump just right?

They were just less mind boggling and stressing as some of the newer great strategy games are.

While all the strategy and gameplay of the more sophisticated newer games is very fun, some times you just don't want to think that much...

Especially if you have a job that requires intense thought all day.

And that's where Mario, Donkey Kong, and Sonic rise up to light of day!!

      Yay!

Yeah, it will be with me, for better or worse, always.

I remember when I rented Gradius III for the SNES and typed in the code and it self-destructed my ship, those sneaky Konami bastards.

Well i remember the old days differently i guess....i found those games very easy to beat.....

the patterns in the arcade were simple...i remember taking a map of pac man and memorizing the pattern so i could beat the game on any level...even when the power pellets on made the ghost turn away...you had like two seconds to move or you were toast.

mutant league hockey....haha i remeber losing b/c my team had no players left, my fav was seeing the guys under the ice (dead of course)

now i have a ps2 with gta vice city.... i just love kicking the crap out of hookers and blowing away cops and running people over......

the games have become way more intense...but the classics in the arcade are gems!

i remmeber super punch out....... all the fighting games....sf2, MK, VF..etc......

games like robotron, karate champ, i love double joystick games...haha...

rampart, D&D, the origional star wars.....wonder boy.... and god knows tetris.....
Boston Red Sox are 2004 World Series Champions!

                  Wonder boy....I remember that one...great.

I also have fond memories of Pit Fighter...kinda tha MK precursor...

I also have a great fondness for Operation Wolf.

I remember going to the arcade for the sole reason of plunking down quarters to grab the UZI and go at it. great fun.

Does anyone know of a PS2 gun game that can capture such fun? I want a light gun game like that now.

Zelda was great. In gameplay, the way the game was laid out with the dungeons and the progressive quests.

Very fun. I also liked Zelda 2.

I want to bring up the Rambo game for the NES.

I liked it for the most part. It took alot from Zelda 2 I think.

Well, it's strange to note that SMarioBros, a simple game with only a jumping weapon, is better than most games like Unreal II which have 30 different weapons to pick from

Simplicity, levity and ease of use, is sometimes the best

Actually, I've also been in a retro gaming mood the past couple weeks.

I've been playing Zelda: Link to the Past, Super Mario Brothers 3, Sonic 2, and ToeJam and Earl 1...
