Sudden Strike 2 (but get the Total Victory add-on too) simply because the scenario editor is superb.

Close Combat III and V are worth a look if you like real time action without the cartoonish nature of the Sudden Strike games. There are huge amounts of user mods and expansions for CC III too.To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.

Medieval Total War is a fantastic game with great battles on a fantastic scale. I've put almost as much time into it as I did with Civ.
