  • Which good classic MP games have you played (and liked ;) )

In this thread 'classic games' means games from the Amiga time (Don't worry about if you only played the game, you'd like to mention, on the PC (or even if it's only avaliable on PC... it's only about games that were from that time))...

And no, this is NO poll
You should just say which classic games you played MP, and why you liked playing MP in that particular game (don't want to know about SP today )

My personal favorites where (all played on the good ol' Amiga ):

    Super Cars II:

I guess this is the game I played most my MP games. This was a really good racing/destruction game (You got some super car ( ) with weapons (which you need to buy after each level... prices could differ), and in the map you had gates (opening/closing randomly), a train (running through the map at random times also) and some jumps (And you could crash you car at those places )
The game was fun in SP, but in MP it was even better (of course ), since you know play the game in different ways, that wasn't possible in SP: This could be "destruction", where Player X does everything possible to waste all other cars, while Player Y did everything possible to win the race (You had to be among the best, to enter next level, so one had to do the race)...
And since this was easy to learn, my friend (I often played against) quickly became a good opponent

    The Settlers:

This game is still among the best games ever made, both for SP and MP... Though since this was hard to master (for my friends who didn't have the Amiga... or a PC), most of the time, while playing the game against my friends, I spent on trying to... ehmm... cheat them (only for a few minutes at a time, since I wanted to teach them to see when somebody is cheating on them... if they didn't discover it, I of course told them... ).
This was great fun, to play 2 vs 2 (me and my friend, against two computer players), since it had some depth in strategy, that most games published nowadays doesn't have...
(Btw, if you have played this game, but didn't find the cheat, feel free to ask... it's not an abvious one... and a fun cheat because of this )

    Other honorable mentions:
Lemmings (Was fun, though never had anyone to play against )
Oil Tycoon (The Tycoon game, that got me hocked to Tycoon games... played it often against my brother... though I always lost )
This space is empty... or is it?

    lemmings online???
how the hell do you play that??

My first online game actually (via modem in fact) was duke nukem 3d and I was hooked on that for a long time (i had this one friend who played it online as well so we always battled eachother!)... after that i mostly played on mplayer (some free RTS and TBS games, which were surprisingly good), and i played a lot of gta1 too, great fun, especially with the motorcycles!

I don't think we've ever owned an amiga.. i was born in 84 so I don't know much bout it

There was a black/yellow computer though with a few cool games such as "prince of persia", pacman, and "cats", paratrooper etc...

I didn't say anything about online... have you ever heard about two players, play the same game on the same computer

And Duke Nukem 3D and GTA1 are not from the good ol' Amiga times, so they are out of the question (= too new = doesn't belong to this thread )

Oh, and I said it didn't have to be played on the Amiga, but the game should be released about the 'age of the Amiga'

Oh God. Lemmings MP. What an absolute blast. I would play this right now with anyone that can make it to Darmstadt, and be laughing my arse off in no time. This has to be the best MP feature in a game ever. Bar none. It is just complete and utter lemming swearing exploding mining building chaos. Love it.

Hard to find an opponent though.

And what about Skidmarks? This was one of my favorite Amiga games too. Oh happy memories.

Yeah, would be great it they make a new Lemmings game, with online MP feature... the creators of Lemmings doesn't exists anymore though

Skidmarks? I have heard that name, but don't remember what it was!?!

Tassadar >> Empire Earth? I think I've heard a game released within the last few years, with that name, but I don't recall... when was that one released?

Skidmarks was a race game, in a kind of isometric view with lots of skidding and crashing (as in car crash). It was great fun. It came with a special adaptor to put 4 joysticks in the back of the Amiga. Sweet

Broderbund's The Castles of Dr. Creep on the Commodore 64.

This was a cooperative game involving conveyor belts, electrodes, teleporters, monsters and more. You had to work together to escape the castles, but if someone got killed, they would start over at the beginning.

It was a contest of wills to find the best moment to electocute or trap the other player so you could make your escape alone.

                There's a dos version, but it's crap.

My all time favorite C64 MP game is Spy vs Spy, the first in the series... This game was awsome (since you could lay different traps all over the house )

I could say the same thing about Scorched Earth... The Amiga version was awsome, but the PC version sucked big time...

This was a fun game as well, which I had forgotten about.

Of course, I've forgotten about most C-64 games I played, since I had so many. Pirating was fun in those days.

Actually, it's not even a DOS version, it's a bad attempt at a Windows versions, not even offical, IIRC.

It slows my computer down more than The Sims, if you can believe it.

Deathrace. One person would drive and the other would operate the weapons.

Oh, yes, Tank Wars, Scorched earth, ect... too. I also remember a game like that where you where giant monkeys ontop of buildings throwing explosive bananas around. Also worms, that's maybe too recent for you though.

I tried it again, but I still got the slowdown. Perhaps it is a 3d accelerator issue. (Although why a game like this needs a 3d accelerator, I'll never know).

I think the program never got out of beta, so it has some bugs still in it.

And the publisher has gone out of business.

North & South was a really amusing MP game back in the days. Well, I would think it still is. I found a sort of updated version of it some time back. Or, it was a new game but it was very much inspired by the old classic. Can't remember its though. It had some serious flaws though as it didn't seemed to work as a solo game and the multiplayer function was just "hot seat" and I don't play computergames togheter with others in the same room anymore.
