  • Anyone have an opinion on SE IV?

I'm trying to get the bad taste of Moo3 out of my mouth. Has anyone tried Space Empires IV, and if so, what do you think? Is it worth, it or should I just hang on for GalCiv in a month or so?

Space empires is a great game and has easy access menus and production orders, etc. With all of the mods out there for it (a great one involving the Star Trek genre is very cool), you would not be dropping this baby for years to come.

I was a huge SE3 fan and I play SE4 from time to time. It is a better looking game, but a bit more complex than SE3.

Solid game, with a pretty dedicated mod community. I still get a lot of play out of it.

Diplomacy is a bit on the shoddy to nonexistant side, though.

SE IV is a great game. I've never seen so many bugs as there are in this game but they are great at fixing them.

sounds like you're never going to play Moo3 again, make sure to come back and visit when Moo4 comes out

                    Thanks all, for the replies.

I don't get the joke, H Tower, but I appreciate the thought. Some of the decisions made for Civ3 put many people off, including me.

But they weren't show stopping, stake-through-the-heart things like Moo3. Some things I got used to, and other things have been modded/patched more to my satisfaction, and Civ3 was FUN right from the start. I wasn't stunned into silence by the complexity or the interface.

But I'll still have my ear to the ground. If Moo3 gets modded or patched enough to salvage (doubtful) or if Moo4 ever comes around (more likely, but not anytime soon), I'll know, and be glad to try again.

SEIV is, as far as I am concerned, the king of multiplayer strategy games. There is a website out there that hosts PBEM games for it, but I don' have it's url handy. You can find all sorts of games starting there regularily, everything from death matchs to epic roleplaying (be warned of huge galaxies though, not everyone can play forever).

However, the game it self isn't really all that impressive and the AI is pretty inept so single player games are not that interesting.

Be sure to get the gold version if you get it.

Yeah - a good game, but not as gripping as SEIII for me

I'm not very up to date, what's so horrible with Moo3 now?
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

Nothing is. Some people where expecting a MOO2 clone, is all. It's a completely different game.
