  • AOM or SC4?

Ok, people... I've been looking for a new game to play, while I wait for Rise of Nations and two games are right now in my plans: Age of Mythology and SimCity 4. Unfortunately, I can only afford one of them right now, so I ask: which one should I pick? I've played and enjoyed past Simcity games, and I'm not the biggest RTS fan in the world (but I'm willing to give the genre a second chance if AOM is good enough). Opinions?
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

Depends on your machine. SimCity needs TONS of resources to run, but is, IMO, a more interesting game (well, I am not the biggest RTS fan, either).

    EDIT: It's SimCity, not SinCity.

AoM, definitely. SC4, just like all other Sim games, to me, is a little bit of fun, but nothing more. Three days of fun tops, then the game gets on the shelf.

AoM... still playing it whenever I want a little bit of an online adrenaline pump. An excellent game, and I'm not a fan of Blizzard RTS.

Yes, you should definetly get AoM.

RTS? Sim City 4 is basically what SC3k shouldve been. If youve got an overactive imagination and your the creative type then get SC4, if not, then play another mind-numbing RTS.

SC4 is totally ruined by hundreds of bugs- wait for patches to come and don't build it
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

Warcraft3 would be best. AOM preferable out of those 2 games, and SC4 roughly in 56th place behind Advanced Sleeping Simulator '03.

LOL, my vote also goes to AoM... I am a diehard Age of Empires fan, and I love all 3 games... Though I must say, even though aom has superior graphics over AoK, there is more variation in AoK (because there are more races with their own special unit and technology and technology tree, plus some civs are quite odd such as the huns that don't require homes, or mayas etc who can't build horsies)

AoM though, is still one great ****ing game, but there is in my opinion less tactics involved (except for some l33t god powers), mostly due to the fact that you can't build 200/210 armies like AoK (in aom good troops take up more space)

SimCity is fun for 2 hours, but it's just boring... I preffered Caesar II, which was a great game, because there you could truly affect your own city.. In simcity all you gotta do is place some power, water, firemen, police etc and then you have to wait and wait and wait till your buildings finally grow a bit... then add a hospital and wait, wait wait etc..

Hm, I have a feeling that I should have paired two similar games... AOM and SC4 are wildly different, so that players who are more active will undoubtely prefer AOM, while the "tycoon" gamer will recommend me SC4.

I agree that the Sim games tend to be ultimately boring after a few days (some would even say after a few hours), but since I always liked to play them in the past (it takes some time for me to get tired of them, maybe it's the tycoon in me ), I thought that maybe SC4 could offer more variety... but if it is just SC3000 in steroids, I could let it pass.

On the other hand, I never liked RTS games... but maybe AOM is sufficiently interesting and different from AOE, but then maybe not... and Warcraft simply doesn't attract me enough.

Maybe I should just wait for Rise of Nations...

EDIT: funny, I typed "SC3000" and the forum automatically converted it into a link to... amazon?

                              testing:

                              sc3000

                              SC3000

/edit: hmm ... only the second one worked.

That's one hell of an odd feature. It doesn't work for AOM, though, does it?

                              More tests:
                              PtW or PTW
                              Civ3 or CIV3
                              MOO3
                              RON or RoN
                              GalCiv
                              CtP2 or CTP2

/edit#2: None of those worked. Where the fook has the SC3000 linkage-thing come from?
