  • Panzer Dragoon Orta is getting some insane reviews

    That's something I didn't totally expect.

Has anyone here actually played the game? I know it's a rail shooter (supposedly it's more than just another rail shooter), and I know Sega's Smilebit made it, but I want to hear from some people first-hand on what it plays like...

Out of 14 reviews, the average review is 92% right now.

    TechTV gave it 100%.
IGN gave it 9.2/10, Gamespot 9.0/10, GamePro 9.0/10, etc.

The lowest review I've found is 86%.

I played Panzer Dragoon when it originally came out (for Sega?). It really impressed me back then, graphics wise. I later found it for PC and bought it. Finally got to play through the whole thing.

I just hope Orta comes out for PC too, otherwise, I'll never see it.

Of course it's getting good reviews. It's a Sega game, after all.

There were two Panzer Dragoon rail shooters for the Saturn, which were excellent games. There was also Panzer Dragoon Saga, which many people consider the greatest console RPG ever. Not many people got to play it (myself included) as it came out towards the end of the Saturn's life and saw an extremely limited release in North America.

If a sequel to Panzer Dragoon Saga comes out for the Xbox, I might have to buy one. Right now, while Orta intrigues me, I don't think it justifies the purchase of a new console. It is only a rail shooter, after all.

Hey, apparently once you finish PDO it unlocks the original Saturn game, fully playable.

I almost bought Saturn instead of Playstation back in '97, because I had played Panzer Dragoon. The soundtrack is excellent too

The graphics in PDO are absolutely gorgeous, they still amaze me. They also run at 60fps and there's no noticable framerate dips in the game at all.

I played Panzer Dragoon on the Saturn. It was admittedly impressive.......though it has the unfortunate distinction of the first game I remember playing that was really good but just much much too short. For me this game ushered in the era of impressive flash-in-the-pan games.

I find myself wondering as to the longevity of this new game.

Yeah, PDS is one of those rumoed great games that nobody played. Being that I have played Skies of Arcadia, done by the same people later, I'd be quiet interested in playing it... too bad I don't even remotely have access to a Saturn or the game itself.
                All syllogisms have three parts.
Therefore this is not a syllogism.

I have access to a Saturn, but it doesn't really matter. Panzer Dragoon Saga sells for upwards of $100 on eBay and I just can't justify paying that much for a videogame, no matter how good.

BTW, I loved Skies of Arcadia too. Probably my favorite RPG since Crono Trigger.

edit: I did some quick research and found out that only 3000 copies of PDS were released in North America.
