Diablo II New Character Creation Disabled
We have temporarily disabled new character creation for Diablo II. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience, and until this issue is resolved, we invite you to please play with pre-existing characters.

    -The Battle.net Team

That explains it. I want to play a druid badly. And on battle.net. Single player just isn't the same.

      Diss,

      From Diabloii.net

Some Diablo II characters are temporarily unavailable. Symptoms are a blank character list after logging into Battle.net or a "Player Not Found" message after selecting a character. The Battle.net Team is working to resolve this issue.

I'm wondering what people without a pre-existing character is meant to do?
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

You know... the fact that Bliz had to disable the creation of new characters seems very suspicious.

A little over a year ago it was found that if you create a new character, immediately hit cancel, then change the name to an existing character (let's say a high ladder char) you could access someone elses account. By hitting cancel you could change the name to anything because bnet would cache the info saying that you new character name was approved. When you clicked to play with this character bnet would not see it as a new character but as the original one with that name, giving you access to someone else's character. It took Blizzard months to figure out how characters were being stolen so easily (and they never fessed up to it at all).

Disabling character creation makes me think that maybe someone found another exploit and Blizzard doesn't know how to fix it yet.

it bothers me because I didn't expect people to keep hacking a game that is 2 1/2 years old. You would think they would have moved on to shooters and such.

These hackers must have no life

            Yes I know. Own goal

sucks, because I'm really in the mood. I could play single player, but that just isn't the same.

There are a few mods out there that run on private servers. Many do alter the game rather drastically though and do (apparently) still have many of the problems battlenet experiences.

Dissident... you have totally the wrong idea. They don't hack because they have no life. Far from it. You can make a fortune selling Diablo2 items on Ebay. Go there and check it out, just search for Diablo2. I'm sure you'll get hundreds of items for sale to show up.

What Blizzard really needs to do instead of fixing hack after hack is to ban the sale of items online. Try searching for Everquest stuff on ebay. People get in deep **** for selling stuff from that game because it's illegal. It also doesn't get hacked very ofter if at all. Go figure.

yeah but how much demand can there be for items for a game that is almost 3 years old.

In fact the graphics are getting a bit dated. I played single player a bit yesterday and was trying to figure out how to rotate the view, then I realized you can't rotate the view.

Now all the realms are down . I really want to play.

I agree the game is dated, but...

Here, check this out. All of these items are hacked and duped tons of times I'm sure. This is from just one person. I'm willing to bet this guys takes home anywhere from $50 to $200 a week selling hacked stuff even now.

This kind of crap is the reason I won't play until the new restricted ladder comes out with the 1.10 patch.

I like the Paladin and Amazon...Haven't played the expansion yet, so I haven't tried the Druid or Assassin.
