  • Starcraft Haters Club

Many gamers around the world consider Starcraft to be one of the best games of it's time. However, I thought, and still think, it was/is incredibly dumb.
The game resembled Command and Conquer too much which had been out for some time. Also, the game lacked depth, there were few units you could build. To me it was just too much like C&C which, by the time Starcraft came out, I was already bored of.
Just curious if anyone else felt the same way and why.

I thought that the game had much more character than C&C. The same held true for Warcraft II. I don't really like RTS games in general (since they're more like click-fests than strategy games), but Warcraft and Starcraft are amusing and entertaining, while many rival RTS games lack the same amount of character.

C&C was bland. SC was not. Simple.

I thought Total Annihilation was a hell of a lot better then SC.

Starcraft is fun, and the 3 sides are fairly evenly balanced despite being quite different. Plus with multiplayer you could have multiple people playing the same side, with all players able to control all units in their team.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

I personally think that Starcraft is overrated. Even the "story" within each single player campaign is dumb, sort of like the "story" of a porn film.

Ditto. TA was a hell of a lot more fun to play then SC as you didn't have any real resource constraints once you'd build up your economy and TA had more varied units then SC ever did.

If you don't like it, don't play it....

There are loads of games I think are crap, but I don't start threads about them. I'd rather engage in conversation about games I do like.

The selections are going to be really limited.

Starcraft has incredible depth, go online on battle.net and ask the people (they are quite many) who still play it. There is a living online community, how many games as old as Starcraft have that?

I can't stand B.net games with random people. It seems like it's nothing but hyper competetive Koreans.

I prefer games where being stoned isn't that detrimental. Hence my love of Civ 2. You start doing the ICS and it would take all the reefer in British Columbia for the computer to win.

I thought C&C was a remarkably tactical game,
                          seriously.

I haven't gotten around to trying Starcraft, but saying it's like C&C won't put me off at all.

RTS's can be fun for multiplay

I did not get into them too much for single play (Dune2 and the like were the ones I single played the most (and C&C and Warcraft 2 I guess((

Starcraft and TA are my favorites for multiplay (With AoE and AoK not far behind)
