  • Vivendi buys Marvel license

Vivendi have apparently bought the rights to use all of Marvel's superheroes in computer games for the next 10 years.
Since Vivendi owns Sierra and Blizzard this opens up some interesting possibilities.
Blizzard appear to be very busy with SC Ghost and World of Warcraft at the moment so it is likely that Sierra will make a game based on a Marvel character or two. Best bet would be a tie-in to the Incredible Hulk movie, although I believe nothing has been announced yet.
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

No doubt that they will make ties in with both the Incredible Hulk and X-Men 2 that are in the works. And then Spiderman when that sequel is made.

It would be interesting to see what a Blizzard Marvel game would yield, but knowing the Blizzard release cycle the game would not be ready by the time the Vivendi deal expired.

Damn! I was hoping for an Irrational treatment of the Marvel Universe.

I doubt Blizzard would touch a Marvel game, though it would indeed be interesting to see what they would do with it.

Since Sierra managed to fiddle around and waste theri Lord of the Rings licence for years I'd not put too much confidence in getting anything out of them in a hurry. There's always Freedom Force, provided the fans create the skins that the company are not allowed to make.

I heard that Irrational was going to do a DC game/expansion to Freedom Force. Is that true?

I dunno. I suppose it depends how much DC would charge for the licencing, since an expansion isn't likely to make huge bucks.
