  • Brian Fargo leaves Interplay: Good or bad news for Fallout 3?

The Icewind Dale 2 news prompted me to glance at the Interplay site and it seems that only days ago Brian Fargo stepped down as CEO. This man had a big role in bringing Fallout 1 & 2 to the PC, but has seemed less committed of late to getting around to a Fallout 3 despite several times considering the project. Is this the final sign that we'll never see a sequel or perhaps a ray of hope that new blood will get the ball rolling at last?
To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.

i hope it's good news, the Fallout series are the best games i ever played, even with all the bugs and crashes they were good.
<Kassiopeia> you don't keep the virgins in your lair at a sodomising distance from your beasts or male prisoners. If you devirginised them yourself, though, that's another story. If they devirginised each other, then, I hope you had that webcam running.

What bugs and crashes? The only bad thing I remember about Fallout was the horribly long loading/saving times.

And I too hope it's good news

the first fallout was fairly stable.

the second fallout had some problems with the car you get. But other than that only had minor bugs. at least for me.

fallout 1 crashed quite often when i tried to enter the Hub, and fo 2 had the car bug, and some things were unfinished, the spaceship for example in SF was meant to take off.

Fallout did have problems with crashing, especially #2. They were both some of the best RPGs I've ever played.

The car... I recall when I simply lost it when entering New Reno... Entered the city and went directly to Renesco's. No way to get to the place where my car is, since it was stolen, as the drug-addict wouldn't talk.

              Oh, and the trunk-floating-in-air-without-car screw-up.

Mehopes Fallout III will become reality. I really do.

i've not had any fallout crashes (though i've only had them for 3-4 weeks)

you can get a car? where?

and to stay a little more on-topic, fallout 3 would be cool

I saw in the Gamespy newsletter that someone is compiling a Fallout Bible. I've looked at some of it and boy, is it detailed. It basically tells everything about the story, including all the history stuff that was thrown around randomly.

                    This is Fallout II.
Remember the Den? There's a junkyard with a broken car called "Highwayman". Now, you need to get some mutated-geezer-whose-name-I-can-not-remember in Gecko, north of Vault City, a super tool kit. He will in exchange give you a car part. Take the part and 2000 units of cash to the junkyard's keeper, and you have a car!

If you also managed to get the "Fuel cell regulator" from a wreck car from the molerat quest in Klamath (you can still get it, though, even if you did do the quest), you can fit it in and save on fuel.

Though I *highly* doubt that a Fallout III will ever see the light of day, it would certainly be nice. With enough points in pick pocket I managed to steal the power armor off the back of a Brotherhood member and lift his chain gun without so much as a peep in Fallout II. Of course I couldn't have any witnesses to my larceny, so the entire Brotherhood had to be eliminated...

While we're all daydreaming about Fallout III, check out STATIC, a post-apocalyptic RPG game that is being developed by a team of independent part-time developers.

Looks fantastic to me, both in terms of the graphics and its sense of style in keeping with the Fallout legacy. These guys are IGF finalists and I really hope they win.

You sure no copyright issues are in effect

If it is as good as it looks, then it's definitely a great thing!

I always wondered how much of the look and feel of a game could be protected, It would be a game (trade?) dress issue and not a copyright issue. Oh well only a high priced game company lawyer could answer that of course they all were give different answers anyway.

Back to the original question, Fargo's leaving wasn't amicable and I think it had more to do with the direction Titus (Interplays owner) is planning to move the company than anything else; can't say that I blame them considering Interplay's only successful division is Black Isle. God knows what direction Titus is thinking of going.
