I played an early version of snake (called "masken" in Swedish; a "mask" is what birds eat; what a butterfly is before cocooning; I guess "snake" is more appropriate for the 21th century) about 15-17 years ago. It was on a ABC 80 (which later was followed up by ABC 800, my gosh! ).
I held the high school record for a time, but don't remember the score.
I don't have a cell phone. The only reason I can think of for getting one are the games coming with it...

It's the same game as that old Qbasic game isn't it? I think its name was "Nibbles".
Yes, it was. Never got through level 10.
Then I met Civ... ah, the nostalgia!
But anyway, nibble's levels were much funnier than those in snake. I know that there's not much Nokia can do due to the size of the screen, but hey, that's jsut my opinion.

i have imr snake for my palmtop. it is very fun
better than sim city classic, but if i had palmtop civ 1/2/3 i would be in heaven. i would play palmtop more than pc!
snake doesnt have levels, just a box, but snake 2 has mazes and no outer box. i prefer the original, so much easier and funner.
Just my 2p.
Which is more than a 2 cents, about one cent more.
Which shows you learn something every day.

I used to play this on the commodore a long time ago. lots of fun. the C64 version was my favorite. you could choose between 3 difficulty levels which gave you no barriers, easy maze, or hard maze. also could choose the speed from 1 to 20. played with a joystick, nobody I met could score even twice on speed 20.
played on speed 1 with no maze, we could let it go on for a long time. eventually we discovered that after the tail became 255 pieces long, it broke off and you became short again. of course the original tail was now a mazelike barrier.
we found a PC version called ibid, but it didn't have the same charm as Viper.

Snake's good
I found a version of it online recently where the snake chases about 6 mice around the game field at any one time. Each one is worth 10 points. Once you get 30 mice, you can advance a level. Get 500 points for an extra life.
Brilliant.
Its under games -> dynamic puzzles -> Snake pit here
