  • Wizardry 8 hint thread

This thread is for Wizardry 8 players to post what they discover about the game, either through luck, trial and error, or stupidity .

Search areas where items are likely to be hidden, such as around barrels, crates, and bookshelves. Got quite a bit of useful stuff that way.

Equip your fighters (that include monks, ninjas, lords, etc.) with both melee and ranged weapons. When you party enters combat the program will automatically switch weapons for your characters depending on proximity. Very useful since you will still be able to attack when you close with the monsters.

    Don't keep search mode on.

Am I the only one who's playing the game here?

    Anyway, here's another one.

During combat, always issue the command to walk. This gives you the chance to retarget attacks even if you don't need to walk.

Yes, it seems that you are .

I just can't spend the $50 for the game. I think I'll get either System Shock 2 ($13 at the EB) or Capitalism 2 ($20 at Babbages).

What, you didn't ask the game for Christmas?

Or is it because you don't celebrate Christmas?

          UR:

I've started playing the game and will enjoy adding to this thread.

            Good man

Here's a hint. When you travel in the wilderness keep to one side of the road, hugging the hillside. Pay attention in locating depressions into the hillside where your party can lodge themselves.

Now whenever you see red dots stand with your collective back in one of these "V" shaped crevices. This way you won't be surrounded by monsters, keeping your spellcasters safe. These crevices are also good camp sites for the same reason.

BTW don't start your party with a psionic they don't have really powerful offensive spells. Mages are good. Also don't bother with the "elite character classes" (bishop, samauri, lord, etc.) until you later. Simple characters, your basic rogues, fighters, priests, etc. progress faster in levels.

Good advice. I used similar tactics for Baldur's Gate, but people called me a wussy! LOL! Then again, BG had all kinds of spells you *could* use strategically ... I guess I wasn't in the mood. I think W8 is more along the hack and slash line.

Fine by me! It's been a long while since a good hack and slash came out.

There are also "non-combat" spells that you can use, but not when your characters are low level wimps

Anyway, what's a good mix of characters for you? For me, I'd have two fighters (one woman), a gadgeteer, an alchemist, a mage, and a priest. Since the gadgeteer has locks and traps you don't need a thief (rogue).

I am more than half way through.

                  Some hints:

Get some female characters, esp. for bards and gadgeteers. Unfortunately, I don't have any of these.

There are three dungeons involving a series of 6 blue runes and some weapon. One of them is at the cemetery.

You can pick up NPCs along the way. The most you can have is two at a time. There are areas where they don't go.

Get a monk. My monk is now doing the most damage, twice that of the next character.

I havent posted here because Vault Network have a whole forum dedicated to Wiz 8 information. Everything you ever needed to know (and more) is right there.
To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.
