I enjoyed Colonization - the DOS version worked fine under Windows95.

It would be worthwhile to update the graphics as well as make the strategy a bit more challenging and sophisticated especially the limited movement factors which contribute to the ease of defeating the superficially "powerful" European power during the final war of Independence.

I'll pop into the cited Website to see what's mooted for Colonization II.

I don't think the strategy should be changed too much, because it was very good the way it was. They could add a Portuguese player and also some more Indian tribes, and yes, the graphics should be updated.

I think what's wrong with Colonization is that it had very limited gameplay, but at the same time complex/tedious micro-managment (having to get specific workers to specific lands, transport specific goods to specific cities, ect ect..)

It's still a pretty good game, though.

I don't agree. Without the complex micro-management, playing Colo wouldn't be so much fun. If you don't like micro-management, I wonder why you played it at all.

It's not that I didn't like it, it's just that that was all there was, moving cargo and people around the whole game. It is fun at first, but get's boring pretty quick.

              All around the World

I think that a Colo II should offer more different European Countries and should offer a complete world to discover, not just America. As I am Dutch, I would like to colonize Indonesia. The English should be able to colonize India in the game too. America alone is not enough for me.

In the beginning of the game the influence of Europe should be bigger too. At the start of a game I feel a bit too much on my own.

Fresno has bought it recently, I will watch it when he has enough RAM in his pc. So, yes I have heard of it.

I said yes, although I never played the original I always wanted too. So If a sequel comes out, as long as it isn't worse than the original, I will enjoy the benefits of better eye candy.

If Sid makes it, I will give it a try. But I never played the original Colonization, even though I have heard great things about it.

I have always loved Colonization, I have been playing since about 1995 a few years later than I started playing Civ and I still play it even now. So it would be great to see a Colonization II, updated with some more bells and whistles. Colonization is a more complicated game, more micromanagement (although fun micromanagement) so I suppose it may be one of those things for die-hard civ fans, because it has a steeper learning curve and would take more knowledge of the kind of game to be competent at it...

I loved Colonization, but the maximum number of units and colonies ended up being a pain in my butt...

By the way, when I wasn't happy with the prices I got for my goods, I used to send umpteen galleons to Europe to buy the stuff I was selling them to get the prices up, then sell it back to them from customs houses in the New World... It cost me a small fortune every time, but I made a nice profit... (-and found out that there was a maximum amount of gold as well...)

Now that is true! I seem to stumble up to this limit every time and deters me from building a decent number of colonies. If the game was rewritten, this limit needs to be eliminated because it is a complete pain!
