Well, I've played the demo many times. I really like it. I'll order the newest version of game across the pond in the Fall (October, I believe is when 01/02 comes out).

We've already heard anout bringing some CM delights into the world of Civ (we remember your column, Markos ), but what could CM learn from Civilization?

I feel that the sense of building a club an lead it to glory from the very beginning still lacks in CM. So a new kind of game (just an option, for fanatics) could be to start as Real Madrid (FE) chairman in 1902 and manage until nowadays, building your stadium, buying terrains for training grounds as well as top players, etc. In fact, playing this way it wouldn't be unrealistical at all to make an European colossus of Barry Town of Caernarfon or whatever team...

Of course you couldn't play each match from each season, and I realise that this would put CM into a new genre (more strategy than simple soccer manager), but still...

well, you can sort of build your own team in cm.
in one game i have managed to take a english conference team up to the first division....

but yes, starting with nothing and being the owner as well(making the decisions on all the economics) would be an interesting new game mode

That's not totally unrealistic 'cause it might eventually happen in real world... we have a few cases in Spain. Probably you've heard about Numancia, or Extremadura....

But what I take as unrealistic is taking a conference team up to winning the Champions League in, say, seven years... and there are some people that have acomplished so. (I never really played that long... my longest game should be five seasons, I think...)

well, the game i'm describing was 5 seasons
              2 in conference
              1 in 3rd division
              1 in 2rd division
              1 in 1st division
but i was not winning promotion in this last year...

and of course i had an owner who had no problem with loosing several million £ every year

Mark, you can always edit the game data so that your chairman is less likely to put new funds of his own int the club's finances...

That's one of the great things of CM, the ability to customise almost everything in the game... and probably the most addictive feature too.

I could never bring myself to customise. It feels sick and wrong, somehow.

So who are you favourite players?

For the sake of realism, of course!!! You know, "play two turns and die of old age" and all that stuff!

Sometimes it feels just right, like when I modify Anelka's attributes to match real life somehow.

So who are you favourite players?
Like I said, the Spanish league is the only one I really know thoroughly. Most goalscoring strikers there are Palermo, Catanha, Kluivert (that's hardly a surprise for anyone here, isn't it?) and Diego Tristán. However, I've found that both Palermo and Catanha's goalscoring skills increase when they play as the only centre forward (I don't like playing with two centre forwards).

A great favorite of mine is Igor Lediakhov (AM C), which you can buy from Sporting Gijón for not too a high price. He's a real crack if you use him as AM C and Free Role. He scores a good bunch of free kicks for season as well.

What about FA players? I think Owen and Keane are well worth buying, aren't they?
