  • Installing Diablo 2

With my new system up and running, I thought I'd reinstall Diablo 2. Trouble is, I can't. Every time I try the computer freezes to a black screen while reading either from the Play disk or the Cinematics disk. I've tried a friends set of CD's as well, so it's not my CD's that are the problem.

If it's any use to know, my system is a Thunderbird 800 with 256Mb RAM and a Creative 32Mb Geforce 2 GTS. Most other components were in the old system, where it installed perfectly. Anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like the old 'CD-ROM incompatability' bug to me. Did D2 work before? Have you patched it since?

If you are not going on Battlenet, you may want to try one of the earlier patches (My system got smacked upside the head by the 1.04 patch, IIRC, but the 1.04b patch corrected that); if you are on Battlenet, e-mail Blizzard and hope they get the next patch out soon.

Also, try diabloii.net--they usually have the best info (and forums) for all things Diablo.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I know all about CD-ROM incompatability - how some drives won't read some CD's for no apparent reason - so I've tried the CD's in both my reader and my writer to no avail.

I think we may be misunderstanding each other here. It's not that I can't play, it's that I can't install. It has worked before, it doesn't currently exist on my hard-drive patched or unpatched and a patch ain't gonna help. I'll try that site though, thanks.

Unfortunately, nothing on diabloii.net. Anyone have any further ideas?

Have you tried posting your problem here?

          ... or here?
