  • 'Unreal' games/Video cards

just curious, I'll be building a new box soon, so I've been looking at some various cpus, but mostly video cards and the benchmarks. Anywho whenever I see a benchmark for games based on the Unreal engine (Unreal T is a good example) I see some really low frame rates on really good computers, maybe in their 20s-40s? what's the deal? is it the game itself, because Unreal T is an online type game? but Quake3 seems to be a lot faster? what's the deal?

Both games run at about 35fps in 1024x768 on my Celeron 500 (128mb ram, voodoo3)...UT normally runs at 40+ fps in 800x600 (depending on the situation). Single player games I play in 1024, online games in 800 to avoid additional slowdown...not bad I think, Q3 doesn't run any faster though.

I know someone who has the demo. I'll tell you how it goes on my GeForce/Athlon 700 later.

Yes, I did spend over $3500 for my Dell. Still, everything runs better on a super 750 system! I love my computer!
