Now I've looked at this game many times while software shopping. The box looks nice but how's the game? It looks like so many games out there right now.

      mwhc...

it is a sim city type game, but way more complex...

i'm now attempting the 4th level, attempting being the key word!

a fun game, but i need some help from those who play...

it cost me $40, and i figure i will get full value before i get bored with it.

still no war at level 4, but that pleases my wife. she became killer at civ after i showed her how to wage a winning battle. she would just rather not have to fight...

girls just don't understand that all games, even old maid, are based on war! i don't want to lose!!!!!!!

so it's running just one city? is it better than sim city (not that that would be hard to do)?

more than one city, the entire nile...

you work on a different city on each level...

i think your cities get tied together as you achieve different levels...

what leads me to believe this is that each city so far is centered on the kingdom road...

the early cities, as your family grows, are based on egyptian history, following the growth of the different dynasties...

if you are a history buff i would recommend this one...

            Good site, lots of info...

Unfortunately, the game only managed to keep my attention for about 1 month... Hope you'll enjoy it for a longer period of time.

I haven't played it myself. I was told it is about the same as Caesar III - I haven't played that one either. I had Caeser II and lost interest after a couple of months - not enough variation.

Thanks for the link. A friend of mine will let be borrow Pharaoh for a week or two. He gave me the demo to play last night and I think it will be a fun divesion until I play Civ2 again next month. In playing the demo a little, it does look like a very complex version of SimCity set in a historical context. I thought the UI and the scenarios are very well done (being based on Caesar3), which is a surprise coming from Sierra.

I'm still on Abedju. Those mastabas are taking so long! Of course I need bricks, but the brickworks won't work fast enough and I'm not importing enough bricks....

After playing for a few hours this weekend (I'm on the 3rd scenario now), it is an excellent game.

Just got Pharaoh last Friday. I played the "first age" scenarios of the "family history" and am now on the first second age scenario that requires trade. (the 2nd?)

So far, so good. This is definitely an enjoyable game!

I believe I'm on the last scenario of the second age. (The one where you can choose between Abedju and Behdet)

John-SJ, tell me when you need to start building mastabas.

                            dStryker,

Mastabas are in the scenario I'm playing, I had to restart once because I didn't have a stable economy for larger populations, but I'm there now.

I'm trading papyrus so I can buy bricks, and I've taken delivery on one batch.

Now I'm in I think the third mission of the Old Kingdom. I need to build two pyramids....

When you need to build pyramids for the first time, be sure to build A LOT of plain stone quarries. I did, and construction never did once stop. There must have been at least 20 quarries.... Anyways, 600 blocks are needed and be sure to build the Temple Complex to Ptah. It then becomes a lot quicker for the blocks to be produced. Also, build a lot of work camps and stonemasons' guilds.

By the way, how many mastabas are in the mission you're playing? The one that took forever had three and at the screen you get when you've completed the mission, I believe it said that I completed the mission in 203 months....
