  • What is Your Favorite non-Civ Game ? (Reviews Appreciated)

I'm looking purchasing a new game. One that caught my attention was Microprose's Diplomacy, based on the Avon Hill game I used to play.

The other was a pirate style explore & conquor game called "Corsairs".

Have any of you played either of these games?
    What others can you recommend?

Do you consider SMAC to be non-civ? If so, it's my choice.

I've played both demos, and they are Not Fun. Corsairs is a poor Pirates! clone, of exceedingly low quality. Diplomacy is, well, not as good as the real board game because half the fun lies in being smug and secretive and making secret agreements. That dimention is lost...

I'd say wait a few months and buy Shogun: Total War when that comes out.

It depends on my mood. There are several categories:
RTS: Total Anhnhilation. It's a classic, and because it allows for third party units, maps, effects, etc., it has a fan base that appears to be as large and rabid as Civ's. Like Civ, you can still find it on store shelves, years after its release.

Humor: Worms Armegeddon. I can't describe it; just buy it.

FPS: Currently, System Shock 2. If you've played Quake and Unreal, you have no idea what you're in for.

Board Game: Monopoly. Yeah, it's lame--I just don't care!
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Diplomacy sucks, according to Cybergnu (I think), who bought - and returned - the game.

IMO, you should buy Final Fantasy 8; there's more to life than strategy games

                The Fallouts did kick ass...
Unfortunately I've played both of them to the death...

So I'll have to go with Battletech.
From MW3 to the boardgame, it's all heaven!
I especially like Mechwar, a computer adaptation of the boardgame (and DOS, no less!).

Fallouts are good, but King Of Dragon Pass kicks ass!

ROGUE SPEAR ( of the rainbow six variety. )

It pretty good on it's own but download the weapons pack of this guy called lyodd and it becomes AMAZING.

An automatic shotgun with optional explosive rounds......

I like half life but Opposing force pissed me off what with the unconsidered plot line and ending.

Half life's own ending was pretty dodgy too.

Uncle Sparky, Bungie has a great deal on a great game now. For 20 bucks you can get the original Myth, Strat Guide, Myth 2, Strat Guide, and the expansion pack for Myth 2, Chimera! If you like real-time strategy games, this is THE way to go! They are such AWESOME games, they have great story-lines also! The games all tie-in together!

So Monolith, is Myth II still played a lot on Bungie.net? And how is Myth II multi-player?

BTW, thanks for the tip on Myth Codex, I am seriously considering buying it.
