  • Ok I need people's opinions here...

I want to get some of the following games for Christmas holidays.

    1) Jagged Alliance 2
    2)AOK
    3)Indy and the infernal machine
    4)Half life opposing force
    5)SmacX

What do people think of the following games I have chosen? Worth it for the single player experience or is there some other game you think should be on my list?
Monkey I am proud to be!
Trim the sails and roam the sea!

    JA2:
If you liked the original, or you liked either of the Fallout games then JA2 is the best of the lot! The game is very well done and one of the most entertaining I've played in awhile!

    AOK:
If you like RTS (or want to try it out) AOK is the BEST there is! This game should easily get Game of the Year!

    Indy:
Can't say, I wasn't terribly impressed with the demo, though adventure is not my favorite genre.

    HLOF:
    Beats me.

    SmacX:
Don't have it yet, but it's the only game left on my "must have" list for this year. From what I've read, it's well worth it!

Note: All of the above opinions are my own only.

      Thanks John-SJ
I'm a great Fallout fan so I shall keep my eye out for JA2

I like AOK, but it's very similar to AOE.

I'm curious about SMACX, but I'm not that impressd by SMAC (Civ2 or ToT was better)

I played "Indy & fate of Atlantis", and I liked it because it had that (excuse me) Monkey Island flair. Maybe the infernal machine works

I started to play JA, but never liked it. I'd prefer XCom ...

        Half life - naaaah!

the original halflife was the only shooter game that I took time to play all the way through without cheating. The story was excellent. Look at the reviews for the new game! If they say just as good as the original then buy it! Personally though, I haven't checked it out yet, sorry.

Well, if you like Fallout (RPG fan, I'm assuming) Ultima IX: Ascension is GREAT, and Planescape: Torment is out soon.

can we add to your list? System Shock 2 is a great game (like Half-life but more scary and with bigger choice. Plus a bit more RPGy...character stats and all). Good singleplayer...so it might fit your criteria...or maybe you've got it already

I'd like to thank everyone for their opinions and yes, anyone can add to my list. The more recommendations I get for a good single player game the less likely I'm going to end up with a dud. I have played the demo for SS2 and I like it, very atmospheric but it might be a bit too scary for me... some of the zombie like creatures really make the most distressing comments at times!

I'm holding back on SMACX at the moment, I'll play through SMAC thoroughly before getting the expansion. Plus I heard that the release version was buggy as hell, with some features left out... I think I'll wait till after the patch.

I've also considered getting either Baldur's Gate or Grim Fandango now that they are both budget here in Oz.

Just an update to let everyone know that I bought AOK and Jagged Alliance 2 today. Thanks for everyone who gave input. Anyone got any tips for Jagged Alliance 2? I find it fairly difficult at the start... I'm playing on experienced which I presume is the normal difficulty level. I'm still yet to take over Dressan... that's how bad I am!!!!!

I'd get Opposing Force of SmacX

Speaking of Half Life (my other favorite game besides everything Sid Meier has done). . . I've always wondered if Valve and Firaxis teamed up to do a game, what would it be like . . . maybe something like SM's Gettysburg, but instead you command a regiment, in like a WWII setting, from First Person view. Shouting commands to company leaders, and even individual soldiers . . dang this game would rock. . .

Imran You keep saying that Ultima IX is great the game sux.

I have it, and even though I keep trying to play it for my Ultima nostalgia sake I can't
I made to the a battle scene and the game keeps crashing on me there, and there are many other issues which make it fall far short of the other Ultimas (mailnly Ultima VII). There are many other bugs in the game and in my oppinion the engine is that much better than everquests.

Well, Soph. If you don't encounter many bugs (like me) or can look through them, Ultima IX is wonderful! I just beat it today, and it was well worth the money. The wonderful, immersible world and great story.
