  • incredible, now that i have tons of time on my hands (but not for long ) I haven't played a single minute of my BG2 game..

It's the fact that I know the whole story and what's going to happen (up till the underdark) that spoils it a bit for me. the magic is gone somehow

      • I played some more last night.
I found a new friend (with what looked like a major gout problem ) and he kicked serious basilisk bottom. I killed the sorceror who was creating the basilisks and got loads of good things (that I remembered while walking to work this morning that I just pocketed and have forgotten to look through/decide what to sell or keep), though I had to take a decent number of stone/flesh scrolls to save my characters. It's a bit of a pain that you have to talk to them again once you've destoned them, but if they're not in your party then they can't earn exp - which means lots more for everyone else, and in particular Dynaheir. She's now at level 4, as are most of the party, though some are at level 5 now. I think that Imoen is at 5, and er, someone else. Jaheira is at 5 and 4 or something weird. Although I got hatloads of exp for killing the greater basilisk in this area, and have found that using the summoning wand give you a great chance of killing them without having your characters turned to stone (if they can't see you because of the horde of gnolls engulfing them - who never get turned to stone, strangely enough - then they can't hurt you, and you can arrow them into the next world ), I think I shan't spend too much time here because it gets expensive having to use stone/flesh scrolls all the time, and then heal the characters back from practically no HP. Should I go north, south or towards the coast now?

        • dude, use protection of petrification scrolls and you won't need stone to flesh spells/scrolls

you can buy em in any temple

          • Oh. Erm, oops.

You do get a lot of exp for killing basillylisks so maybe I'll call back that way.

I don't remember every details of BG1, but I think somewhere in the south, there is a bridge with cool treasures.
IIRC the basiliks area is in the upper far right corner of the general map. The bridge is in the middle far right side.

              • Against petrification, I remember having summoned something. I think it was an undead (or maybe some invisible stalker?!?!).
No, no, wait... there is a friendly undead somewhere a wight or gost or ... ?
Take him with you, put him in front of the basilik (avoid contact) and attack from the side (and/or with missiles).
                Try to keep him alive.
I remember it was possible to kill all the basiliks and to keep the guy alive.

                • Cheers Dry, but I've already done the basilisk area. The shield I used was a tame ghoul. He's immune to petrification, but I discovered that so are the summoned creatures, so he's not absolutely necessary.

The basilisks are to the middle right of the map, so I'm not sure which bridge you are referring to. I'll probably visit Ulcaster next, because there's some ruins I've been meaning to pop into, and then toddle around the rest of the southeast areas I haven't uncovered yet. If I spot any more wolves in passing through the area to the SW of Nashkel, then I may hang around and kill them to gte the money for decent weapons and spells.

                  • Jamski - I didn't notice Fireball on Thalantyr's list!
If I don't get it automatically then where can I find it? I want to burn stuff (especially my party members )!

                    • Hem, I did a small search on the net and, it's normal you don't see the bridge it is ... well, go visit Ulcaster first.

It is, and as he's evil, I do it always. You have to pick the right options and he attacks you, or try and backstab him.

No, you'll need to buy the scroll and learn it. Also, you need to be level 5 to cast level 3 spells.

Don't know why, because she's already got one level 3 spell in there, although she can't actually cast it yet.
She's an Invoker, so cannot learn Enchantment spells (also another school IIRC).

South you won't go back to, West is interesting, North is good, but you'll do it eventually either way.

Becuase its so good, you'll have to wait untill much later in the game to use it.

HOWEVER. Skull Trap is the same level and does the same damage, and can be "placed" before a fight. Smaller area also means less chance of toasting Minsc

I'd like mine medium rare, how will you be having yours Jamski?

I played a good deal on Saturday evening because my girlfriend went out. I finished the Ulcaster school, and managed to kill jellies, as well as many hundreds of wolves of all sizes. I killed a halfling in Gullykin for looking at me funny, and he gave me a secret door into some dungeon with an Ogre mage there. He didn't last long. I got some great stuff from his pulverised body, but didn't hang around because I needed a rest and some healing. I'll go back in after I've been to the inn. I caught about 8 winter wolves, and blew lots of money on Shadow armour for Imoen, just because it looks really cool. Dumb thing to do really, but I'm not bothered. I can always kill more winter wolves if necessary.
