Recomend me some good games for a laptop - sepcifically, a pentium 300 ( or is it 200?) with no 3D graphics acceleration. It has a good bit of RAM, and also windows XP ( Which'll make dos games difficult )

I already have Transport Tycoon and X-Com picked out, and Master of Magic, if I can get it to work. Dominions 2 runs decently, but the battles go at a snail's pace even on the lowest setting. And King of Dragon Pass is a perfect Laptop game, of course.

I can't think of what else to try. Europa Universalis, or another Paradox game? I think the processor is too weak for that. What about Baldur's gate, icewind dale, ect... how do you think those would run?

Unreal Tournament (the first one) would run quite well on your machine. It demands very, very little from the graphic Card, everything from the CPU and RAM.

Try Ancient Domains of Mystery (ADOM), a very good RPG that will run on almost any computer.

The first Baldur's Gate is very old (in games terms) and should run. I've just got it (admittedly for my brand-new laptop), and I'd expect it to work on yours. I got it new for £15, but if you check out eDonkey then you'll find it sells for more than that so if it doesn't work then you could still make a profit on it.

Ah, just thought of another good game for the laptop: Uplink.

I don't think unreal tournament would run well at all, but I wouldn't want to play it anyways.

            And Civ2... a novel idea.

If Civ2 runs, then SMAC probably will too. How about MoO2?

Well, I had a laptop with a P2 400 and 128 Mb RAM, and it ran fine, despite the graphic card sucking horribly (2.5 Mb video RAM and no 3d acceleration at all).

Also, I could play Civ3 on that computer, but I couldn't play on maps larger than standard without insane waiting time between turns.

To be honest, you could probably play most of your favourites on that laptop, but, as Spiffor said, they'd suffer in speed and graphics. If you use a custom install for these games then maybe you could trim some memory off them and make them run faster, but it's not something I'd dare do.

Oh, and uninstall WinXP on this machine. With such a CPU, chances are the RAM is vastly iferior to 256 Mb, so I would advise certainly not to use XP.

You should rather use Win98 SE. It works fine with all the games of that time, and you'll experience a much faster performance

For once I agree with Spiffor on an issue

It's not actually my laptop, so I can't install 98.

It has enough ram for XP (256, I'd guess) and it runs alot better with XP then it did with 98, anyways.
