on another forum(at quartertothree) i saw this and i just had to share...
it looks pretty good but it is only multiplayer(it has some single player training though) but it seems practically like a massive multiplayer game since it can support so many players at once and it seems most games last quite a long time(i saw mention of 80 mins on that site's forum). i haven't played it yet but it's looks quite deep to put it lightly. the source code was also just released by microsoft
along with all the graphics/etc so i'm almost 100% sure it's abandonware too. it's about a 40mb download so try it out!
Most multiplayer games exhibit a very simplistic concept of teamwork, if any. Allegiance is a 3D space shooter/sim in the tradition of X-Wing vs Tie Fighter that goes far beyond any similar efforts in this arena. With support for up to 58 players in small game mode and 200 players in big game mode, eight different factions each with five distinct research paths, several different categories of spacecraft, a dedicated commander position with an RTS style 3D interface and a gameplay style that demands coordinated teamwork to accomplish anything, Allegiance goes where no multiplayer game has ever gone before. And all this works great on a bog-standard P2 with a 56K modem.
