I'm interested in complex computer war games, but not in the typical world war I and II setting. Anyone have suggestions?

If pre 1900 is what you mean by premodern there are alot. For good coverage of the whole 19th century at the operational level there is Age of Rifles. There are a bunch of Napoleonics games, and some decent 18thc (Horse and Musket?)
Ancient games are a tad rarer, theres the Great Battles series, not sure what else."A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human. To become human, is what this individual person, has been created for.” Martin Buber
