I've decided to roleplay BGII again, doing it solo this time. My last solo attempt I got to Spellhold, but it was all too easy. I did it as a Kensai dueled to a Mage at level 9, and the mage dualwielded Katana's (Dakkon Zerth's blade and Celestial Fury) with the Sunblade in case much undead appear.
Whenever I've properly roleplayed it as myself I've been a Cleric, since that's mostly how I see myself. I enjoyed the Kensai/Mage, as it was quick (fast kills, but easy to hit) and had huge huge power. But I wanted a challenge, hence the new idea.
I rolled stats of:
Str: 12
Dex: 18
Con: 10
Int: 18
Wis: 18
Cha: 7
and gave him proficiency in sword and shield, sling and flail (for Flail of Ages). He is now level 10 and is up in mace too (for the mace that gives 18 str from Copper Coronet and the undead killing mace), and will go up in Warhammer last (for Chrom Fayaer). He's armed with a sling+2, mace+2 that sets str to 18 when wielded, plate mail, ring of protection+1 and balduran's helm. He is a true neutral Priest of Helm (I'm more of a Neutral Good usually, but I like the idea of balance, and I was feeling like trying some of the more evil quests this time, to stop anyone getting to powerful).
The problem I have is that though he has great defense (67 hp and -4 AC) he has only one attack per turn, and so fights take ages (doing the copper coronet slaves took ages, about 10 rounds per soldier). The other problem is what quests to do right now. He can't do any major fights yet, so the stronghold quests are out. I've done the first part of copper coronet, but don't feel he's ready to take on the slavers yet. Are there any relatively easy quests for him, to get some xp and money, as when he has the Girdle of Hill Giant Strength I think he'll be able to face up to a lot more? I've started on the bridge tanner's quest, but I'm not sure he'll be able to beat the rune assassin at the bottom, and worst of all, he has no find traps, and so can't even get there yet. Are there any stratagies for fighting without a Mage (never done it in BGII before, since I always have at least 1 mage in my party) and how should I play as a solo cleric. I've done BGII in a quite a few ways, but all solo characters have been fighters that have been dueled, so have many more attacks and hp. Without that, how do I survive and fight well, without a fighter or stoneskin? Most of all, what do I do without a thief when I need to get rid of traps?
Just looking for some advice and discussion, since it's pretty difficult atm. If I'd dueled him from fighter it would have been much easier, but then that would be roleplaying it as I wanted to.
