i wont get into specifics of current games, as i still play older games

      I will be more general

I'd like to see games that bring new people into the hobby.

I'd like to see games that aspire to be more than a game - that either teach something - whether its history, economics, science or whatever - or that are works of art - that take games far enough into interactive ficition to be treated and evaluated as literature, and not just as interactive entertainment.

Id like to see war historical type game that brings that genre fully back into the mainstream of gaming, as in the good old days of the 1970's.

Actually I'd like to see some original stuff too.

I'm getting tired of seeing 2, 3, 4...etc after the names of games.
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

Spaced, that game looks interesting. Its not using the W40K rulkes though, but the Panzer General 2 rules, which is a bit wacky.

I wonder where I can "get" it?

Its called Planetside. I recommend you try it out. I no longer play it because I lost interest, plus I just don't have the money to spend on the subscription.

There's free trial offers and such (www.planetside.com). If you are REALLY interested, and can't find any free trial offers in effect, I can send you one that I never used.

                And Thief3 is in production.

I haven't played that, but I was under the impression that it's basically just a huge tribes game with a bit of character progression. It lacks the epic-ness, and realness, of WW2 online.

And I'm fairly certain that there aren't any mechs.

but didn't know about the free trials. I'll give it a try now.

You are right- there's no mechs (though that'd be kewl [btw, they are making a mech mod for the upcoming Tribes3]). And I don't know why people equate it with Tribes at all. You don't have jet packs, and the gameplay is more akin to Battlefield1942 than anything.

Yes, very little character progression. But hey, if you can find a free trial offer, might as well give it a whirl.

That's all the same when comparing it to WW2online, really.

I guess you can summarise the difference by saying Planetscape is a first person shooter, while WW2online is a combat simulator. You don't just jump in a plane and scoot around like a figher ace in WW2online, you really have to know what you're doing just to get off the runway.

I would like to see a turn-based, empire-building game that knocks me out the way Civ 2 did...

Unfortunately, I have a feeling it will not be Civ 4...

I thought Dune already existed as a game? IIRC one of my mates used to play it (like 10 years ago, or so)...

The boardgame is very different than the Dune PC game that was released in the 90's. I never played that PC game but I understand it was sort of like Command & Conquer.

The boardgame was part RPG, part wargame. Very entertaining. There are PBEM sites for the original boardgame even though it has been out of production since the 80's.
