It's actually called "simlulator sickness", and results from your vision perceiving things that your body is not experiencing. For instance, if you "see" that you are moving forward in the game world, and yet your body does not "feel" the associated movement, your brain gets confused and makes you sick. The effect would actually be reduced by technology such as you are suggesting (virtual reality chair that whizzes you around the room) because your physical motion would be more closely aligned with your visual perception.

Sorry, but BG2 couldn't even hold Fallout's jock strap. Morrowind is a better game than BG2... just face it .

I've never played any MoO game. But why was MO3 so bad? Why does it suck that much, instead of being an ordinary mediocre game?

It's not good to be sure, but I think the disappointment factor always plays a big part. Expectations were very high because of the excellent previous games.

I only bought one pc game this year - and that was of ebay(it was Daggerfall - ebay is the only place to find it now). I'm enjoying playing it - and i enjoyed getting the right kind of pc/hardware to play it on

I didnt buy Moo3(but was going too) or Civ3 because of the early views expressed after their releases.

2003 was the year i got an xbox and i've bought a half-dozen games just to give me a good choice to play.

Out of those i found Splinter Cell to be the most disapointing. It was just too damn liniar, even if it looked so great. It felt like i was moving from one scripted scene to the next with no real choice over my path.
Still it won alot of awards so some people liked it

Because it was mediocre (although that's a compliment) and its predesessors were excellent. A new title in a classic franchise (like MoO, Civ, or Pirates!) should be an improvement over its previous colleagues. It should not backtrack to something less than a previous game in the series. Am I the only person that feels this way?

Apparently Firaxis, Infrogames (now hiding under the Atari alias), and Quicksilver don't agree with me.
