    R.I.P. Microprose

Someone ought to be tarred and feathered for this...
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

Oh come on. Few people who buy computer games give two whits about who the publisher is. If it looks good and is getting strong reviews, that's what matters most.

When was the last time Microprose published a game you played? Be honest--it was already a dead husk, for all intents and purposes. I'm far more concerned for the employees who lost their jobs than the name--I mean, really, who cares?

Other than nostalgia from a very small group of gamers, what other reason would there be for keeping Microprose around? Would you rather have it churning out Atari crap and sullying its own legacy?

As it happens i played Sid Meiers Antietam over the weekend. While based on the Sid Meiers/Brian Reynolds Gettysburg! engine, it was modified with the participation of a design house called Breakaway Games. Run by apparently more Microprose alumni. IIUC they are still designing follow ups to this game set in the Napoleonic era, now without the Firaxis name on the box (apparently theyve licensed the engine). So Microprose alums are doing well, running game design houses (in addition to Firaxis and BHG) and creating good games. IMHO, that means Microprose lives.

Im less familiar with Masters of Magic. Who designed that and where are they now?

I bought my first computer in 1984. It was a C-64. I soon found out that if you bought a MicroProse game, it was going to be a good game. That is long before I heard of Sid. I have bought a lot of MP games over the years and never regretted buying any of them.

Just a reminder that Test Of Time was made after Sid and company had left MP.

Also Sid and a Col. USAF started MicroProse, so how did he/they lose the company?

Another class computer game company was Sierra.

There are a few publishers I have (or I had) good opion of, and I tried to play all their games. Lucasarts-Lucasfilm 10 years ago, for instance.
