  • Warlords IV

This game is close to release now. I am looking very much forward to it.

Have any of you guys played any of the previous titles in the series. Which one did you like the most.

For me it was Warlords II.

I liked Warlords 3 and WBC 2 (even though it was RTS, it was RTS with class)

Warlords 4 is TBS, right? This one's gone under my new-game-radar a bit. I need to go and read loads of preview sites and discussion forums....

    ...umm...

    ...anyone got a link?

I loved Warlords 1 the best. The infinite variety all sprining from the initial map lead to much strategic fun. Those monks of Carmal were superb fighters - you could make a group of their light infantry as strong as a group of dragons - if you visited all 4 temples of course.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

I have had Warlords IV for a few days and have been playing the campaign and having fun. It is similar to III. You can not touch shrines for boost, nor get lots of quests. You get one quest per map and it is 4 or 5 task. The structures you search can respawn.
I like the fact that I have some impact on the combat.

            No luck yet.

Can't wait to get my hands on this one.

                Thanks Asmo

Anyone else think half the graphics were just lifted from WBC2? And DRAGONS are a playable race Now I'm worried.

I'll have to try the 140Mb demo before I buy it. I've been bitten too often recently with new games.

This game is going to own TBS.

Lifting graphics is a fine Warlords tradition, Jamski. A lot of artwork in WBC was lifted from W3.

Can someone explain the gameplay in this series. Is replayability like Civ TBS, or is there a story you wont play through many times. To be honest, fantasy TBS is a subgenre I haven't tried much, apart from Heroes3. I have AOW2 though, just haven't played it yet.

Ummm, its something between MoM and Ctp2. But actually better than that combination would lead you to think. And a bit of building up the stats, and "side quests"

Jamski, watch out for the demo, did not care for it at all. I still bought the game because of Warlords II and III. I am glad I did.

BTW III is a pain in that it needs to have 256 color, that is why I stop playing maps from the web. This may not be a problem in XP, since you can set the thing to use 256 for that game. I must have had at least 4 copies of the game, but cannot find any now.

I was able to get the Deluxe II version to work in Win98SE and the last I knew it can be ordered from SSG. I am not sure what the current name for SSG is now that they split.

It's basically about war. There is no tech, no building different buildings in your cities. Your have 4 upgrade levels, that decide how well it is defended and how many different units it can produce.

Resource gathering is automatic so you wont even have to wonder about that. Just move your units around, kill as many enemies as possible, and avoid getting outflanked. The problem is that the AI tends to gang up on you, allthough I am yet to play this latest release, so I can't say if that is tru here too.
