Does the USA map has the same additional rule as RR's "Western USA" map? You make twice as much doing (mainly) east-west runs than north-south runs.

There isn't a transcontinental US map that ships with the game.

The fan made one doesn't have any special rules, although I think you can add something like that in fairly easy.

Well, they've released the demo for RT3 a few days ago. So, those of us in doubt can check it out and see about buying the full game.

I also played the Railroad Pioneer demo, which Sava pointed out, and I think it's pretty cool. I quite liked the idea of exploring the land, though I imagine you can't really build up your empire quite as big as you can in RT, since you have to build every train and car on your own...

Any way, downloading the RT3 demo now. We shall see if this game's any good.

I'm really enjoying this game, it's the most fun I've had with a computer game in years.

I'm actually participating on the Gathering forums and developing Gold winning strategies for some of the scenarios, offering tips on how to successfully play the financial markets, and stuff like that.

Anybody else give this one a whirl? I have actually created a scenario for this game (first time I ever attempted modding in my 36 years), and it's turning out pretty well. I put a quick v 1.0 on the web, but 2.0 is coming out this week and it is a far far better job than the earlier version. When uploaded, I'll link to it and give this thread a bump. If anybody has this game and wouldn't mind checking out my scenario, I'd appreciate all criticisms and applause y'all have to offer.

Finally got it. I do love this game and I think that the stock market provides an additional and very interesting twist to the game.

I wont have much time in the next three to four weeks but I will give it a try JohnT. The fan scenarios/maps are among the key elements that have kept me hooked on RRT2 until now and I think tha the same will be true for RRT3.

                  So long....

PS: Very sad but true, too many games too little time and a boss that does not understand that!

I kinda like the stock market in these games, but the only thing I do is buy back stock.

I feel the opposite... the stock-market is one of the things that kills games... or at least makes a game more boring than it could have been...

And again I feel the opposite... the "You can't play anything but boring scenarios" style, makes games boring... I didn't enjoy RCT much before I got my hands on the scenario maker, so I finally could make a free play game... I only played RRT2 a little because of the lack of good free play games (There were no such option)

Does RRT3 have a free play option?
This space is empty... or is it?

Well you can always play in Sandbox mode if that is what you mean. This feature was also included in RRT2. You can freely build and marvel at your own trains at will. But in the long run it does become boring because you only "model" as there is no real competition.

I am not sure how the game would work if you did not have the stock market? How would you measure the winner in a game?

Sandbox mode? Isn't that were everything you build is free?

Usually it's an open ended mode of play with no AI competitors and no goals.

But sand does tend to get boring. But it is usually great for testing strategies, and for doing tests on the game model.

I used it a lot for just that in Caesar 3.

I'd like to try that new scenario of yours. I've been looking for a new map to play, as opposed to one of the suprisingly small number of scenarios that came with the game. Those are starting to get quite old, quite fast...
