  • Head over Heels remake

There's an excellent remake of another venerable 8-bit classic, " Head over Heels" this time. This is one of the remakes that does get it right, a well polished manual, new graphics, music/sfx that remain faithful to the original but also fresh at the same time.

Most importantly the playability is still there, and that's what makes the difference...together with doughnuts, hush puppies, cuddly stuffed white rabbits and all!

I hope we will see more of these better quality re-makes of old 8bit classics.

Yeah, like Blaster Master, that was a good game.

I never played the original Head over Heels, what was it like?

How was the the original HoH? In the isometric category, it's what Wasteland is to RPG. Not everyone is into RPG, but damn it got IT right.

At the time HoH was released isometric games had just reached their peak on 8-bit. A couple of years before Ultimate (now Rare) set the ball rolling with Knightlore and others soon followed, some good, some bad.
HoH was an isometric platform game on a grand scale never seen before and the fact that you controlled two characters who could also join to form one made for some interesting puzzles. It offered a challenge for the beginners and the diehards. Beginners could escape the prison planet and head for home. the diehards could make a couple of detours to also get the four crowns.

Plus the game characters were instantly likeable and thanks to some excellent coverart/ads from Bob Wakelin stuck in your mind. I'm actually glad they never made a sequel, it would never be able to create the same sort of buzz as the original.

Looks like an absolutely bizzare game. "likeable characters?" it's just some weird lookin' cat and dog things.
