Ladders are a pain............I think you are best off sticking with an all-against-all tourney series like this one. If it gets too big then have 2 groups.

I fear my game against Sir Ralph. He beat MtG! However, as zorbop is already playing two games, I should probably play Ralph next.
I'm ready to play when you are."You're the biggest user of hindsight that I've ever known. Your favorite team, in any sport, is the one that just won. If you were a woman, you'd likely be a slut." - Slowwhand, to Imran

I'd suggest to start a new group as soon as there are at least 4 new players there. We already have Pave and MJW. When Trajanus and Frozzy join too, we could start it. To integrate more players in our 6-group would be very difficult.
So, who of the new players is ready to start up?
Still, a ladder would be more apt to our "floating" player base. Group play needs constant presence of all players. Ladders may be difficult to maintain (and to be honest, I have no know-how about them at all), but they seem the best solution under these circumstances.
