I bought Icewind Dale II last month because I knew it would be a decent game and more importantly knew that it allowed you to create your own portrait graphics for your characters.
I had no plans on buying NWN as I can't stand games that require you to turn over your checking account to them in order to play them online, however:

have made me consider purchasing NWN. My question is whether it allows you to have custom portraits or not.
And as a side note, should I upload the custom portraits I made somewhere or does anyone else use them?

The only difficult part is finding good games. Sometimes you get in games with powergamers that don't want to roleplay at all. There are sites like neverwinterconnections.com which will help you hook up with serious role players.
