  • Constitutional Crisis in Karakas

After a recent lawsuit which threw a spotlight on Karakas' controversial Constitution, the once-remote prospect of the country dissolving is more likely. The governor of the northern canton of Dakmor is calling for the nation to be re-structured, and threatening to declare independence if the northerners do not receive better representation in Congress.

The cantons in the south - Pendelhaven, Onea, and Korlis - have more seats in Congress, despite having a smaller population than the northern cantons. (The largest of these last, Dakmor and Amjad, are home to almost 40% of the national population.) The Constitution was written by Jacques le Vert, former baron of Pendelhaven, to direct power away from the northerners, the rivals of his homeland. There have been several influential northern Presidents including Moshe Katan and Xira Arien; however, southerners have always held a majority in the Congress by virtue of the Constitutional provisions.

(OOC: I have been thinking of starting a new nation - this might be the excuse. )
Everything changes, but nothing is truly lost.

(Just letting you know that I am reading it)

Iguana Fire is shocked and appalled by the sheer numbers of collapsing governemtns in the Apolyton Region- as such, Emperor Komnenus has increased military spending, raising the tax rate another two percent.

He is quoted as saying- "In times of uncertainty, the only certain thing is an iron fist."

In other news- not due to policy, but due to happenstance, Iguana Fire has recently become a Father Knows Best State.

Many people, including Komnenus were slightly appalled- but Senator Poda nodded, stating that "perhaps it is for the best- at least our populace will be safe."

Others, notably the Free-Love group, demonstrated against the move, calling it "Draconian and Orwellian."
