After a double homicide that shocked the nation, the Karakas Assembly decided to re-instate the death penalty for capital murder cases. The move has already caused controversy among local opponents of capital punishment.
On hearing that the neo-Nazi group "White September" was planning a rally at the Rose Tower at the heart of the City of Karakas, the Assembly passed a resolution forbidding the march from taking place. Capital Militia and military police will be deployed to inforce the injunction. As of noon tomorrow, White September will be officially outlawed from Karakas, and being a member of this organization can incur a minimum penalty of one year in jail. Senator Siti Nurhaliza Abdul Rahman has proposed a list of other extremist groups to be outlawed, which is currently under review by the Assembly.
EDIT:
Note from the President:
Karakas feels very strongly about racist groups and symbols. Since our independence in 1983, successive administrations have done all they can to ensure that racist ideology does not take over national discourse. The idea that the Rose Tower, the palace of the medieval kings of Karakas and a poignant symbol of independence from the Numenorean kings beyond the sea, could be co-opted by the cause of fascism, is unthinkable to the people of Karakas.
