  • NEWSFLASH: Anarchy in Alecrast - Nation in shambles in HSA aftermath

The proud nation of Alecrast, thrust onto the stage of the Apolyton Region after the Sovietskii Soyuz incidents and recent nuclear threat, have decended into a complete chaos reminiscent of the wars that all but tore the isles apart almost 10 years ago, before the commonwealth was formed. Where once there was order through the rule of law, there is now order through the rule of biker gangs.

At 4:02pm today, Alecrast local time, the Alecrast Monach Liam "Archaic" Pomfret approved the deployment of the Hunter Seeker Algorithm in an desperate bid to prevent his nation from suffering the same fate as both the nations of Akira and the Sovietskii Soyuz have in recent days. This Algorithm was intended to prevent all outside access to the Alecrast computer network, and to purge it of all traces of the Akira AI.

However, something has gone wrong. And it could not possibily have gone more wrong than this. With all telecommunications and electrical grids down, Alecrast has all but sent itself back to the stone age, with Petrol and Batteries turning into the most valuable goods other than food and fresh water. The elite Yokuza and Ranger units of the Alecrast army have managed to hold onto the city of Flaim and restore it to some sembalance of order, and it's only through their communications and the communications of a few private reporters now stranded in Alecrast but with access to Centralis and/or Greater Finland sat. phones that our reports are coming through. The fates of the other cities are completly unknown, but the most worry has to be around the Nuclear warheads captured only 2 days ago by the Alecrast Yokuza forces in Sheepsta. It's known to only the top brass where these have been stored, but it's a safe bet that at least some are in silos, and that not all are in areas under complete government control.

More news will come as it develops.

Centralis offers the full support of it's military in restoring order to it's ally. We leave it to the discretion of the Alecrast government how our forces may be employed, as they most likely know more about the situation than we do.

I think, in light of the difficulty in communicating with the Alecrastian government, that we're going to have to deploy our paratroopers into Flaim unilaterally. Hopefully they can set up a communication centre and allow whatever is left of the Alecrastian government to contact the outside world.

USJ is also sending in paratroopers as well. We will try and find out what in the world is going on. Soon our millitary will be freed to be used else were. Once that occurs and the situtation deems it necassary, we will launch a full scale invasion to restore the old government and order.

Reports from Alecrast slowed down to a trickle then stopped completly not 10 minutes ago in the wake of what appeared to be heavy jamming of outside transmissions, originating somewhere off the Lodoss east coast. Our last update came from persons unknown, simply screaming "They're everywhere, help us! They're everywhere, help us!" over and over into a Centralis Sat phone before it was abruptly cut off by the screams of gunfire and an explosion in the distance, after which all frequencies to Alecrast suddenly went dead. Centralis and USJ paratroopers have already commenced operations into the Alecrast capital of Flaim in an attempt to restore order, but as for the success of either of these operations, we simply don't know. Either they're not talking, or they know as little as we do thanks to the jamming.

We'll have another update on the situation as soon as it comes in. Until then, from Geelong, this is

There is a bright flash outside the window of the newsroom, which points over the sea towards Alecrast, and the transmission suddenly cuts out

The Centralis observation satellite GodsEye IX is expected to reach a position over Alecrast soemtime within the next hour. We will deliver an update once it arrives.

We have sent one of our carrier battle groups to the regoin, USS Freedom. We will begin recon flights over the skies of Alecrast to determine the situtation.
Our forces have begun full scale moblization and expect to have an invasion force ready soon once we determine the conditions are safe for it.

Centralis does not wish to have to launch a full scale invasion in order to restore order, as we all know how messy such misions can get, but we are willing to fund whatever relief projects are required, and we are also prepared to launch limited operations when necessary.

The Karakas navy will take action to secure the shipping lanes between the south coast of Karakas and Alecrast.

                        Satellite Report

With a centralis satellite now in position over Alecrast, we can at least try to guess at what the hel is going on down there. Preliminary reports indicate that the ionoshpere over Alecrast has been left highly charged, disrupting communication from the ground to orbiting comsats. Given the nature of this charge, and fact that it seems to be dying down somewhat, we suspect it was the result of a high-level nuclear airburst, possibly a neutron bomb. We have no way of knowing, for know, where it came from, or why it was used.

AH-75 scout helicopters from the Karakas 1st Fleet have just passed over the Terribi Islands. They report that Sheepsta navy vessels have passed the island chain and are now deep in Alecrast's territorial waters. Additionally, several troop transport ships are beached on the beaches of the Terribi Islands.

We demand that Sheepsta explain its actions and withdraw from Alecrastian territory. Further erratic and aggressive behavior will result in serious retaliation.

After further examination of the interference around Alecrast, we have concluded that it was, in fact, the result of a nuclear detonation high over Alecrast; the bomb appears to have been a fission one, of a type which is available on the black market if one knows where to look, and thus provides no clue as to who the perpetrator was; we expect, however, that fallout from this device is likely to be carried by the wind from Alecrast towards the mainland, possibly as far as Unibinia or Redfern. We urge all nations on this route, including our own, to take measures against the radioactive fallout.

As for the issue of what's actually happening on the ground; not much seems to have changed, as the area outside Flaim is still largely chaos, and that within Flaim is not a whole lot better, but the troops deployed into Alecrast by Jackson and Centralis are still alive and kicking, and have set up a communications centre as ordered, though they've lost contact with us. We will be deploying communication ships and AWACS planes into the channel between Centralis and Alecrast in order to escape the effects of the nuclear blast. We will be further investigating the jamming detected before the blast, but currently, we cannot detect any jamming at all. It is possible that the jammers were shut down once the nuke went off.

The response to these events from Greater Finland comes in somewhat late; due to the detected nuclear detonation, most of the western and southern parts of the country have been set to a high-level emergency and government operation has been tardy since it was forced to relocate to a safer location.

Fallout shelters are filling up down south and the flow of people to the northern parts is enormous. I am considering enacting martial law and deploying the military to avoid anyone taking advantage of this sudden chaos.

Our meteorologists do predict that the wind will either bring the fallout much further east or even southeast, but there's also a 10 % possibility that it will turn and bring over one third of the radiation here.

First of all, Greater Finland condemns this act as a high atrocity, since the attack has not been concentrated only at Alecrast, but also all other nations of Apolyton, which are subjected to the risk of fallout. Secondly, we are mobilising our fleet to the Alecrast - Greater Finland channel to watch over the locale and provide assistance to USJ, Karakas and Centralis forces. Since we might have to enact martial law, it is not planned at this stage to send troops to Alecrast itself.

I am also chiming in with Karakas and demanding an explanation from Sheepsta; are they taking advantage of the situation or did they even cause the situation? The Navy of Greater Finland will assist Karakas in cutting off the Sheepsta route to Alecrast if needed.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!
