The winds of change had been blowing through the islands for a number of years now, the people had been oppressed and had endured many years of hard labour under various leaders. The working man in the factories and fields had grown tired of the continued interference in their lives. They craved freedom. The leaders of Auldonina itself were out of touch with reality.
The first active resistance began in the docks of old auldonina city. The management had stopped all payrises and the workforce halved. Discontent brewed. The workers had been pushed to ofar and they set up a picket line at the gates. The government sent in the troops to open the docks again. Fighting broke out and rocks were thrown, bullets were fired in retaliation, 15 workers were killed and 20 hospitalised.
Further such events occured through out the Auldonoina islands. Each time the fighting was worse. More casualties occured. The soldiers took their first casualties. Business's were being forced to hire the army as its guards to keep business going.
Slowly the resitance grew and they managed to get arms from overseas suppliers. Father and sons fought together for freedom. International opinion began to sway. The fighting grew to the streets and the towns. Soon it was no longer just a working class man war, as more and more of the white collar workers joined the resistance movement.
The governemnt then made a big mistake, it threw the full force of the army agaisnt its own people and casualties were high. In one terrible day over 40,000 people were killed in the streets on the West Coast. As the public outcry over the slaughter grew, the government continued its mistakes and rounded up all families of the rebellion and shipped them to the West to keep them all together.
A cease fire was finally sealed when the Auldonina Government cordoned off the Western Provinces and set up raod blocks. A pseudo border was formed. The Auldonina govrment realised that without totally wiping out the Rebels there would be no end of fighting and that International pressure would place Auldonina in a bad light.
Finally semi-autonomous rule was granted in the Western Provinces. The rebels had fought for and won their freedom. Now they had land to cal ltheir own, but they wanted more, they wanted independance.
The Council of Western Auldonina decalred on 4th July, that they were now independant from Auldonina, the newly created area was to be known as Rasputopia. Named after the founding leader of the rebellion Rasputin. Auldonina goverment were not happy and the tanks crossed the unofficial border.
But the Rasputopian people were much better prepaed this time. They took defencve positions and held out the first waves. Auldonian freedom supporters fro maround the world sent aid including trained soldoiers and equipment. After months of fighting inthe West, the rest of Auldonina citizens began protesting too and it seen became obvious that to prevent a total out break of rebellion that the Civil War must end.
Finally on the 18th December, the two governments met and signed the deal. The Republic of Rasputopia was pffically declared legal by the auldonina governemnt. All sympathisers were encouraged to move to that section of the islands.
On January 9th, the First inaugral meeting of the New Senate elected their president and leaders. Messages were sent round the world inviting free and open trade with the new republic.
Auldonina goverment closed al lborders with the new Republic and refused to budge. Dissent still ran rampart in the rest of Auldonina, with immigration across the border increasing daily.
The first census indicated 5 million people were now officialy FREE.
