The Oppressed People of Varaag.

The Oppressed Peoples of Varaag is a small, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 7 million are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt, socially-minded morass -- is effectively ruled by the Department of Law & Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 41%, but much higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Woodchip Exports.

Elections have been outlawed and tics are considered a delicacy. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Varaag's national animal is the tic, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the varaag chip.

basically i only joined nation states for roleplaying here at poly, the basic premise of nation states sucks without role playing. so the lack of posting here has resigned me to the fact that nation states is not a fun place to remain, will check back occasionaly for mroe activity

True. I think NationStates as a fad might be wearing out. Have you looked at the site recently (including the forums)? It really is the dregs left on there. I'm talking elves and furries.

I'm still not there. Guardinia died when I got a little daughter in March 2005 and I didn't feel like starting from scratch again after that. Had some fun with some of you people before that though. Have a nice life - and Happy New Year!
