  • Newcomer to Nation States

I'm a newcomer to the Nation States forum. After looking through some Nation States threads and such, I thought I'd like to give this a try.

However, I'm not sure where or how to start up my nation (other than placement and expansion rules). How do I determine my population, growth, industry, military, technology, culture, etc. of my nation?

Also, should I join up and try to play with you guys, or is stuff to crazy right now to join up (I read the Ceroo threads)?

Also, how would I go about setting up my nation with passwords, regions, UN, etc? Honestly I'm really confused here.

My nation name shall be known as Shalista, and the adjective (people) shall be Shalistans.

So if anyone has any advice, suggestions, or "Don't bother to join" gimme a holler.

Sovereign : First of all Welcome !!! Obviously if you're at Prince level, you've been posting @ 'Poly for a while now.

Nation States is actually a free on-line game at the following http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi

To create a state, follow the instructions posted at that sight. There have been a few hundred thousand states created (no I'm not kidding, I have 5 myself), so its possible the name "Shalista" has already been used.

When your state is created, it will automatically appear in one of four "Pacific" regions. Once this has happened, you can move it to the Apolyton Region by :
      a) clicking on the World in the toolbar;
      b) going to the "Find Region" prompt and typing in Apolyton; and
      c) clicking on the prompt that reads something like "Would you like to move your nation to Apolyton.
      d) you can join the UN by clicking on the "Join UN" prompt on your nations main page.

Then come back here. Pick a place on the map (sticky thread @ the top) and have fun ! Its rather quiet here right now... summer time in our hemisphere you know, so there isn't much activity. There are usually a few people who get involved in various role play threads; you've already hear from two of us.

There are also extensive forums at the NationStates site. I'm usually involved in a RP thread or two there. My Apolyton nations are The United Good (expect to recieve missionaries) and Grant Park. In the RP threads at NationStates I also use The Tobans (located in Canada region) and Gen Italia (located in Italy).

      Have Fun !!!

I finally made a nation. It's Sharina, and its a New York Times Democracy with a very strong economy, suberb politic freedoms, and some civil rights.

        What next?

Also, can I improve or worsen my civil rights, economy, and politic freedom with the "issues" thing?

How quickly does population grow? Does it have a cap? Can population growth be accelerated by Issues or anything?

I'm curious since I noticed most nations have like 3 to 3.5 billion people but I have yet to see a nation with 4, 5, 6, or 7+ billion.

One last question... I'm curious if I can improve my enviroment, since I don't like my nation having barren and inhospitable areas, and deforestation. Can I change that through the Issues / Events?

Once I know the answers to these questions I can really get involved with my nation.

          Tht's basically what it's for.

How quickly does population grow? Does it have a cap? Can population growth be accelerated by Issues or anything?
It seems to grow at between 1 and 7 million per day, depending on the size of your nation; I know of no issue which affects this, although putting your nation on vacation mode appears to slow your growth down.

I'm curious since I noticed most nations have like 3 to 3.5 billion people but I have yet to see a nation with 4, 5, 6, or 7+ billion.
There's no cap, it's just that nobody's had time since the game was set up to get that high.

One last question... I'm curious if I can improve my enviroment, since I don't like my nation having barren and inhospitable areas, and deforestation. Can I change that through the Issues / Events?
Yes, you can improve your environment (I used to be "barren and inhospitable", and now my nation is "environmentally stunning"); repeatedly ban uranium mining, and don't make choices that are obviously not good for the environment. If you really want to take the economy hit, ban cars.

            Yes.

Population grows at a fixed rate and it doesn't seem to have a cap. Issues may influence population (e.g. refugees) but I am not sure.

Yes. Generally choose the pro-environment laws when relevant issues come up.

                        Haha.

I finally moved my Sharina nation to the Apolyton region. Thanks for the tip, Sparky.

BTW, I'm glad to see one of my fellow BAC authors here. A big hello to GeneralTactius.

Do you want to set up an RP, or shall I?

A RP would be exciting. Lets hear your ideas for one, Squeblish Nef.

I'm doing a little RP'ing myself at the NS forums, mainly purchasing stuff to give myself a basic Army, Navy, and Air Force.

                              Selected a map spot?
I'm a bit stuck for ideas, and a little hint as to your location might make the world of difference.
