  • Recent developments in Admaria

This just in. With the recent passing of the Public Domain resolution, Admaria has outsourced all creative activities previously under the direct rubric of the federation to the newly formed Federal Copyright Corporation, which does not count as a "government" under international law. Admaria has also announced that, consistent with its constitutional ban on ex post facto laws, changes will not be retroactive, and that all copyrights are considered "perfected" by Admarian statute unless the copyright is invalid due to inapplicability, unoriginality, or fraud.

Before the passage of the resolution, motion in the Federal Corporate Senate to withdraw from the UN garnered wide support, but was delayed by a filibuster, then tabled when the UN resolution passed.

    Latest news from Admaria:

The Federal Corporate Senate today narrowly approved a motion to withdraw from the United Nations. The motion was introduced during the last session of the UN, filibustered, and tabled when support to break the filibuster could not be gained before the "Public Domain" resolution passed. With the most recent UN proposal to legalize abortion, the Senate has taken up the tabled motion once again. The motion passed 61 to 39 after another attempt at filibuster failed.

"For most of us, this was just the last straw," said Senator Jazz McDorphin. "Admaria has long had a tradition of protecting fetal rights, and coupled with the anti-business resolutions coming out of the UN lately -- including this last one masquerading as a free trade resolution -- the incursions on our federal rights could no longer be tolerated."

Federal officials are in the process of determining which parts of the country's labyrinthine legal code need to be revised to accomodate the withdrawal. "Conceivably any right once protected by UN resolution might be under threat," according to one official. Small-government advocates have used the occasion to lobby for a more streamlined legal code.

Cerooan UN Ambassador Nicola Llewellyn commented that "Ceroo is unhappy to lose both North Teaxs' and Admaria's endorsements [due to them leaving the UN], and the whole region suffers from reduced voting power in the UN". However, the Cerooan government accepts and respects Admaria's descision, and fully understands as it's against the resolution also.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE NATION OF FRANKYCHANLAND

The overzealous nature of the so called "United" Nations seems to have finally come to light. The UN has, for too long, curried favor to the oligarchies and the 'good ole boys' network. Frankychanland applauds the courageous actions of Admaria in recognizing the despotic nature of the U.N.

This should show the nations still under the thumb of the U.N. that the grand nations of Apolyton are starting to understand it's despicable nature and will fight for their sovereign rights as a nation. The withdraw of North Texas from the U.N. is another example of how the U.N. is starting to lose is effectiveness as a "fair and balanced" forum where the nations of Apolyton can voice their concerns.

Frankychanland extends it's arms of friendship to the grand nations of North Texas and Admaria. If these two fine nations would like, we can discuss their possible membership into the FCL/Hive Union.

A benefit of joining the Union is the eventual streamlining of the entire governmental and justice system. Once a decision is made by the government, it is not debated, it is done.

The Federated Corporations are no more. Long live the Constitutional Federation!

                Statement released by the AFC-CIE:

To provide for the general welfare and the common defense, the nearly five billion citizens of Admaria have joined together and established a Constitutional Federation. Still committed to the principle that that government is best that governs least, Admaria also recognizes the principle that untold social costs are incurred when society governs not at all. Therefore, owing to the recovery of our nation's economy, the social and environmental costs of continued corporate rule, and the need to assume the responsibility of our own defense after the dissolution of Akiria and Centralis, Admaria has chosen by a 68% margin in referendum, to enter a new age and adopt the Federal Constitution.

Footnote: The AFC-CIE, the Admarian Federation of Capital - Corporation for Industrial Entrepeneurship, is the largest of the Admarian capitalists' unions and an Admarian Fortune 100 company.

Martin Vasquez, Karakan ambassador to Admaria, hailed the governmental modification. "Karakas congratulates the people of Admaria and wishes them well on their new path." He commented that the absolute chaos of the Great Collapse appeared to be abating and praised Admaria's continuing commitment to market economics and governmental stability.

                    Retirees Demand Federal Pensions

Protest demonstrations continued today as the Federal Parliament prepares to vote down a measure that would give retirees pensions from the government. The protesters reacted not only to the defeat of the legislation, but to a widespread pension freeze among many of Admaria's leading corporations.

"I can't live like this!" said protester Faith Falopian. "I got by on my pension for ten years, but this is too much! Health costs are up; taxes keep getting higher, and for what? So that the government can build skate parks for teenagers and employ kids just out of high school in the military! I can't believe what this nation is coming to when the average age in a government job is twenty-five... At least these younguns have their priorities straight."

"I understand the demonstrators' concerns, but we simply can't afford it," said Secretary of the Treasury Bernard Whitmyre, pointing to an array of graphs and pie charts. "They should be angry at the companies for freezing their pensions, not at us."

"How am I supposed to raise pensions when all this tax is eating away at my profit margin?" asked Robert MacGuffin, CEO of Plot Devices, Inc. "The blame belongs squarely with the government -- it's instituted programs that simply were not necessary, like these skate parks for example. And whose idea was it to ban cars from inner cities? That should be a municipal affair, shouldn't it?"

Most municipal governments in Admaria dissolved or were bought out during the Corporate era, and citizens have been reluctant to risk higher taxes by reinstating them.

                      Colonization initiative announced

                      Admar, Admaria
                      Admarian Chronicle staff writers

Following chaos in Aeturneus after the collapse of its government, and significant population pressure in Admaria, Federal President Adam Gieseler today announced he would introduce legislation to begin a major exploration, humanitarian aid, and colonization initiative on the island of Aeturneus.

"The population pressure here, and the civil disorder there, has one simple solution," said the Federal President today in a press conference. "Admaria must reach out our hand in brotherhood to the Aeturneans, accepting them as members of the Admarian confederation. All residents of Aeturneus will be recognized as Admarian citizens with all innate rights, natural rights, human rights, constitutional rights, civil rights, and legal rights."

The bill introduced provides for the Federal government to send exploratory teams into Aeturneus to contact the native population, to begin humanitarian aid with the consent of the population, and to assist Admarians in relocating to regions of Aeturneus where the native population consents to their immigration. "Everything we do is intended to be with the consent of the natives," said the President, who mentioned he hopes to avoid the tensions present in other nations' past colonizations.

The bill will also set the groundwork for establishing the Constitutional Confederation of Admaria, composed of two units, the Federation of Admaria and the Community Congress of Aeturneus. A constitution for the Community Congress would subsequently be created, and sent to communities for ratification. Finally, delegates from both the existing Admarian Federation and the Community Congress of Aeterneus would agree on a Confederal Constitution, which would need to be ratified by both populations.

The initiative was undertaken after masssive education and welfare programs intended to deal with population growth returned mixed results.

                        Civil Disorder Ended

Riots in many of Admaria's cities were quelled today with minimal loss of life.

Overcrowding in cities, combined with the promise of new hope from the Colonization Initiative, prompted citizens to take to the streets demanding immediate relocation, in defiance of the orderly process worked out by the government.

The violence was quelled when union leaders ordered their members to stand down in exchange for government assistance. Deprived of momentum, the riots collapsed.

In response to the action, the United Nations chose to recertify Admaria as a Civil Rights Lovefest. The riots, together with unconfirmed reports of sporadic violence in the newly colonized region of Aeterneus, had prompted the UN to declare Admaria an Anarchy.
