The smoke slowly rose from the remains of the fire. The smell of morning coffee filled the air. From tents located all along the ridge men and women were slowly emerging. The first rays of sunshine were appearing and the cooks had been doing their best for at leat an hour already to prepare for the day.
Out of the central tent, a much larger one than the surrounding tents, strode the Captain of the local brigade. He only had a small force here to monitor the border but his troop were well traijend after spending much time with the nation of Emerald Cove in their yearly war games. He was pleased to have his favourite group of NCOs with him again. They had been together in the war on terrorism that had seen the eleimination of all Terrorist camps in the coutnry.
He lifted his binocalors to his eyes and looked south, there he could see his peer from the Guardina border patrol doing the same. For a few seconds the two pairs of binoculars were pointing directly at each other. The captain waved to the distant officer on the far hill across the imaginery line in the valley. He saw the other captain smile and wave back.
He smiled himself and headed back to where the cooks wer elaying out breakfast. If only we could be true friends , he thoguht to himself. Politics sucks he thought.
As he approcahed the mess area, the most repsected General Suzanne Berong looked his way and summone dhim over. Berong was Western Apolyton National and had risen through the ranks quickly with many dispalys of strategy and brwavery i nbattle.
He turned and walked over saluted and then wondered what today had in store for him and his men .
