          • N3 News Bulletin
Good morning, I'm here on board the INS Herald, although I am unsure of our present location. We passed a few Auldoninnan ships with out incident yeasterday evening, and I believe we have been heading north since then. In the early hours of this morning, the Faraday and some of the other cruisers launched missiles towards the Azani island, I am unsure who was targeted, although it is likely that the missiles were fired at enemy positions along the main highway that runs along the Azani west coast into Frankychanland. There has been other activity just before dawn [ooc: troop landing, below], although at this time I am unable to give any information. I hope to have a full update for the lunchtime bulletin... John Bretos, N3

Town Designated 'CLZ-Beta', The Border: South-West Coast of Frankychanland / North-West Coast of New Azan

The eerie twilight was suddenly broken by the sound of the Cerooan landing craft rushing toward the shore. Small, fast and heavily armoured, these vehicles (designated BGFF-8) contained small numbers of troops, and were designed for quickly landing a small infantry presence to gain a foothold. The craft weaved through the mines in the ocean, and towards the small harbour town. Spotted, enemy troops opened fire, but their machine gun fire was insufficient to penetrate the outer hull. Some larger shells crashed into the water as the group started taking artillery fire. Now clear of the mines, the first of the BGFF-8s crashed through the harbour wall, and headed towards the main harbour area, populated by a few fishing boats. The other nine continued in their arrow formation towards the sandy beach. A shell landed directly in front of the lead vessel, causing it to veer off course, clearly damaged, it began to slow down as the other vessels hit the beach. The main doors at the front of the landing craft opened, and as the machine gunners atop each vessel laid down covering fire, the small infantry units emerged, and began to run for the cover of the nearby brushland. The company was taking fire from their left flank, towards the harbour town, from the eight craft 160 emerged, but only 138 managed to make it to cover, the rest lay on the beach, felled by the enemy's bullets.
Overhead, two Osprey fighter jets flew over, one swooped down, clearly targeting the enemy's position outside of the town, and fired a pair of low-yield missiles. Rocks and other debris were flung up in the explosion, the Cerooan company covered to protect themselves. The machine gun fire had stopped, and the dust cloud began to clear- had the enemy been hit? If there were any enemy left it was these troops' job to engage them, bravely they ran towards where the enemy had been, or may still be.
The craft heading for the harbour managed to reach the harbour wall, and dock. There were no enemy in the town, the 19 marines dropped here would have to be careful to avoid any civilian casualties, should their position be made. They started to head south to 'mop up' any enemy trying to retreat through the town away from the other Cerooan company. Back out in the bay, the last craft slowly struggled towards shore, it had been badly damaged, should any artillery remain, another hit could possibly sink it...

[ooc: the enemy here is likely to be FCL forces as it's in the west, but may be Hive forces, open for Franky or Laz to respond with losses, if any and a counter-attack]

            Roshem Airport
Osprey fighters zoomed overhead scouting the area for potential SAM sites or other threats. Shortly afterwards, four C-130CX [ooc: a Cerooan take on a RL model] Hercules aircraft dropped beneath the clouds, three of which begain taxi-ing to land. The fourth continued towards the port, now flanked by the Osprey jets who had completed their sweep of the area.
After landing, the doors opened and from one three heavy artillery units emerged, from another several armoured cars and a few troops. The third was fully loaded with paratroopers.
The commanding officer was quickly escorted to the Nooslandian command post where he was greeted by a Nooslandian Colonel who saluted on sight.
"Colonel Richard Mol, First Regiment of the Topaz Guard, reporting as requested" said Mol, saluting as he spoke.
"You're late" replied Colonel Grey. [ooc: the Nooslandian CO here IIRC]
"The General sends his apologies, he was required to co-ordinate the effort here with the operation in northern Azan".
"I see, are you sure you weren't delayed because you were sewing those ADU badges onto your uniforms"
            "You like them?"
            "Yes I do".
            "So who's the CO here?"
            "I am"
"Okay, sir", Colonel Mol felt a little uncomfortable being subordinate to someone of the same rank, but ADU protocol states that as facility commander, the Nooslandian commanding officer is the ranking officer, "Two battalions of the Topaz Guards, the paratroopers, are to be landing in Roshem right about now just south of the Guardinians"
"Landing in the city?! Do you have any idea how dangerous that's going to be?"
"They're landing in the Givat Yofi park, should be ample space there".
"And then they're heading to engage FCL forces?"
"Yes, once they've been cleaned out, they're to bolster the Guardinian forces on the A-50, word is at the ADU command post in Guardinia, a massive counter-attack looks likely."
            "Right".
"In the mean-time the rest of the First Regiment and one of the Hercules craft are assigned here, under Nooslandian command, the others will be heading back to ship over more equipment".

"Sir, the Ceroonians (?) have launched an offensive against General FrankyChan and Auldoninna forces are blitzkrieging across the countryside"

"Any significant damage on our forces yet?"

"No sir, damage to garrison situated in Tel Azan but enemy forces have avoided direct confrontation with our bulk so far"

"Well then its time to cut out this growing cancer of democracy, issue the orders to all commanders, strike now ... with excessive force if they resist"

Tel Azan soldier to Air Marshal further north
"Sir we need backup!! enemy units have almost encircled us, local militia have taken up arms and are sniping at us."

                      "What is your location soldier?"
Static echoes down the radio ....
"Report, what is your location ? ..... GET THOSE JETS IN THE AIR NOW!"
With the barking of orders from the now totally irate commander a wasps nest in the background begins to stir into life.

Tel Azan flats [ooc: those plains to east]

"Okay ladies the orders are in, we've got some worms to crush and buildings to mush, everybody good to go check in now"

"Ready and waiting" , "Check", "For the CHAIRMAN!!!", "Hurry up and gimme a target"
The enthusiastic responses piled in from the tank commanders who had been sitting around cleaning their turrets for days on end desperate for a command to get into the thick of it and prove their worth.

"Roll out then, i want groups 1 through 9 with me to relieve our comrades in Concept, 10 through 14 lay waste to Ronya and 15 through 25 you guys get the fun part"

                      "Roshem !?"

                      "Affirmitive"

"Great Hive has welded to forever stand,
United and mighty, our Glorious motherland!
                      .......
The Major cut off his radio before the encore of the entire group started, as much as he loved to join in the praises to the Chairman and the Hive he had a few orders left to give.

a)Those aren't flats, Lazerus. That's some hilly terrain. See map a couple of pages ago.

b)You cannot relieve the troops at Concept, because they're surrounded.

                        c) same for Tel Azan.

                          • A little later in the day in the skies over Tel Azan

"Last reported contact was just down there .... Sir is that what i think it is ??!"

"By Yang its the Auldoninna command ship sitting in the dock, Azani's restocking it ... we have orders for excessive force, lets use it"

Several thousand Hiverian fighters and bombers poured down from the skies, wave after wave, all resistance within Tel Azan was to be removed.

                            "Down there, incoming SAMs"

4 Jets were hit and instantly destroyed, while 5 more were clipped and sent spiralling into the city.

"First wave increase altitude get back out of range, second wave you have your targets destroy everything within a 500m distance of those launch sites"

Bombs were dropped indiscriminately, any building that gave off the slightest flash that might indicate a SAM being launched was destroyed, street after street was layen to waste. Skyscrappers were toppled and clouds of dust billowed into the air, pictures from the several accompanying spy planes showed soldiers mixed with civilians racing around the streets ... for awhile anyways, soon they were either corpses or had simply disappeared once the blast had died down.

                            Radars began to bleep ...

"Well here comes our reception, incoming Auldonnina fighters from the sea, estimate 400, engage!"

Missiles streaked across the skies, jets destroyed before they could even see each other, patterns were assumed and broken, flak was scattered into the sky as pilots played cat and mouse.

"Divisions 13-20 get that ship and any anything else anchored sunk, rest of you stick the incoming fighterr..."
Sweat now dripping the Captains face as his cockpit flashed red, incoming missile locked onto him. He slammed left then into a straight vertical climb, flak flew out of his rear but still his alerts rang
                            "CCCLLLiiimmmbbb..."
He choked out as he gritted his teeth with the massive G forces now tearing away at the jet
                            "for the chairm"
                            A blast filled the sky.

"This is Wing Commander Reiko taking over command, you all have your orders so keep going"

Fighters dived for the enemy command ship, several shot down by incoming SAM fire and several more by anti-aircraft guns, their wreckage plummeting plummeting onto the dock killing crew members running around frantically on the decks.
Bombers payloads soon began splashing into the water around the ship, until the whole area was erupting with splashes or fire. The ship began to struggle into reverse tearing away its supports from the port while being hit with payload after payload, its cannons on the decks now burnt out wrecks and its communication tower toppling over into the sea below with people screaming as they followed.
The bombers continued their work, now suffering some losses from Auldoninna fighters however as they sought to protect the retreating ship, being cut down in return by a tailing Hive fighter.
Several jets skimmed barely 50 feet from the surface as they came in behind the ship dropping torpedos into the ports water. They streaked through to find their target, 2 striking the ships rudder, 1 missing and exploding into a small ship still docked in the port the other 2 catching the side of the flagships hull and tearing a whole in it.
Minutes passed and the bombardment continued until the ships rear end began to submerge, the front arcing up in reply before snapping the hull in two.

"Reiko, remaining Auldoninna fighters in retreat shall we continue pursuit"

"Continue until you come within range of their other ships then turn around and head back, anybody with payloads empty them on any defensive position still left in that city and head back, thats a wrap for today.
                            ...
Air Marshal Kim this is Wing Commander Reiko over"

"Greetings Reiko, i see you surpassed your uncle the Chairman will be pleased with you"

"Thank you sir, we're chasing down a few of their remaining fighters before cleansing the city and heading back, is that ok?"

                            "For now"

                              • The A-7 near Roshem

Combat. At last combat was looming. It would be better than waiting. Anything would be better than waiting. He was trained to fight, trained to operate this APC's machine gun, not trained to stand around at a checkpoint and hold a metal detector.

He saw tracer bullets lancing through the city ahead, and the air was ripped apart by the rattle of machine gun fire. Bombed-out houses lined the streets on the outskirts of Roshem. As the APC slowed, to proceed more cautiously, he noticed, for just an instant, a tall pine tree standing in the garden of one of the destroyed houses, and was reminded of Kyralia . . .

Then they were approaching the Azani lines, trundling uneasily across broken concrete and shattered glass. "Keep your head down!" his driver called to him. "FCL forces are dead ahead!" he added, as the shots echoed from their front.
Everything changes, but nothing is truly lost.
